Quote:A weak PSU can cause you card to fail under load, it's not very likely to cause things like this on your desktop. By looking at the pictures, I say it's a faulty memory chip on the card, RMA is inevitable.
Well, these are the responses from the official AMD Game Forum that the moderators there provided. So I'll RMA the card tomorrow. Hopefully they'll make haste in replacing it with a new one.
And I'll probably be buying a new PSU, so I need some input on it. Would a Corsair CMPSU-650TX be good enough?
I think a Corsair CPU would cut it, its not all that expensive compared to other ones and it does quite well (a friend of mine has it). I don't know much about this model in particular but its supposed to have good airflow. Anyway I think a 650 one is more then enough, even in the long run.
As for the card and the solution the AMD moderators mentioned, they are definitely right. My friend had this problem happen to him as well. By him it only happened in games though, after 5 mins playing he would just get random texture disappearances and pixel errors. He took it to the shop and it turned out that some thingie on the card went faulty. If you're getting that even on the desktop the whole card is probably faulty. So yea, sorreh, could have told you this sooner but I didn't see the thread
' Wrote:Correct me if I am wrong. But I was told that the minimum recommended powersupply for a 5 series ATI Radion was a 640WATT.
I remember this because I have a 500WATT and was told I would have to upgrade in order to install a 5 series video card over my 4 series card.
I suggest upgrading it to a 750 or higher for the head-room.
640W if your PSU is garbage most likely. One of those Generic brands.
My HD4850 uses around the same power or a bit more as the HD5770 at load. I'm running a Silverstone Strider Essentials 500W powersupply (80+, Active PFC, 34 Amps on 12V). I have yet to have a problem.
450W-400W Minimum Recommended For HD5770 or lower according to ATI. But you should always have more then the minimum to be on the safe side.
But yeah, if you could later on. Go for something bigger to power that quad and the HD5770. Corsair makes good power-supplies. Their 400CX got great reviews and that is their low end power supply. That 650W is more then enough.
You can also get OCZ Power supplies for 600W-750 for under 100 without the rebate. And they have all the bells and wistles.

OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W, 79.99 after 20 Mail in Rebate. 80+ Certified, Active PFC, Dual 12V 25 Amps Each (50 Total), SLI Certified. Plenty of power with headroom to upgrade plus a good price.

The power supply shouldn't be a problem with a 5770 + a 945. I'd too say that is an issue with your 5770, probably a faulty RAM/memory module. If you ARE concerned about your PSU, however, you'd be more than well enough off with a Corsair/other brand name PSU in the 450-550W range with that setup, but I'd take a 650-750W or so for future-proofing when you're upgrading later and might want to go CrossFire.
I agree with AMD. This is the memory chip on your GPU.
The best way to test it is to goto your locat best buy (if in US) get another card (preferebly lower serieslike 4XXX) and swap out and see the results then. I can almost bet you will not see this issue again. (Best buy's around here have no restocking fee so you will not lose any money).
As for installing windows XP. Even if the CPU works fine after that, that is no workaround. I am sure you want to run Windows 7 on that sweet arse machine.

Indeed +1 I have 3 PCs assembled by myself with this ones, they are cheaper then the Corsair/BeQuiet/Tagan etc. but they are good ones.
The latest PC is with the same card and the same CPU, and this 600 Watt PSU http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/powe...am_power_supply
I bought it for my brother around 2 months ago, for now it is tested on all possible new games and applications and there is no problem with. Good Luck
