So if Im following you its like this now (lets say 20mb/s connection
20mb/s in 100mb/s cable to the computer
Modem --------> Cable --------> Computer
Thats 20mb/s out.
=======================================
With a normal 1, 10, 100 mb/s splitter(switch) its like this
20mb/s in 100mb/s cable then the max 100mb/s splitter and then another 100mb/s cable to both computers
Modem --------> Cable --> Splitter --> 2 computers
Output both computers in 20mb/s
=======================================
With a low peformance 1, 10 mb/s splitter(switch)
20mb/s in 100mb/s cable then the max 10mb/s splitter and then another 100mb/s cable to both computers
Modem --------> Cable --> Splitter --> 2 compters
Output both computers is 10mb/s
=======================================
Is this what you meant or am I getting you wrong:P
Edit: Ah yeah I failed ^^ simple splitter should be a switch.
Ah, ok, well it works now with one or the other plugged in.
If nothing else, get one with a switch and/or call the ISP.
thanks A&L.
edit: yeah sea falcon, comcast cable modem, cat5 cable runs from modem to the PC. Basicly was plannign to grab a splitter, hook 'em both up at once. I proably just need to call comcast and ask.
Hardcourt - if by splitter you mean something like then IT WILL NOT WORK. That splitter is meant to split your phone line between phones and internet, not provide internet connectivity to two computers. (In any case, it wouldn't fit anyway, the ADSL filters use RJ-11).
What you're thinking of is a Ethernet switch. For home usage, they are generally bundled with routers - I haven't been able to find a home Ethernet switch. But yeah, get a router.
