GB's can still demand cargo within their home worlds.
Lets say a Outcast in Alpha.
Lets say a Corsair in Gamma.
Lets say a Rogue in the Badlands? (it's gonna be to gray I suppose but still it's called the badlands)
If this conditions creates to much gray spots in rules etc.I won't care to much. I would still approve.
' Wrote:I believe it has lots to do with armor upgrades to ,most good transports have way more armor than a gunboat.
Gunboats are more maneuverable, have more firepower and have better shields (regen of 2000 compared to a regen of 900). Hull strength won't matter if the gunboat is blasting ya with twin razors and keeping out of your line of fire.

[color=#FFFF66]K, let's roll with that.
' Wrote:I can see there being a lot more traders and more bombers, but maybe, just maybe there will be more escorts about since fighters can't really take on gunboats. Although a good escort wouldn't need to.
[color=#FFCC66]Mo' traders = naw. Mo' bombers = mebbe. Mo' escorts = naw.
[color=#FF9900]Fighter groups > Gunboats. Bomber groups < Gunboats.
Think insta with BRs and think all-guns.
Bombers are way easier to hit with everything a Gunboat has at its disposal and GBs, esp. all-gun ones, make for wonderful escorts since they can keep on with firing at the designated target all the time, effectively suppressing it from doing anything but dodging. The difference is, fighters can usually effectively dodge that kind of fire, while Bombers, being slower in general, bigger, and more cumbersome, get hit repeatedly and slowly get worn down. Expand the hypothetical scenario now and say it did create an influx of Bombers outta' sudden. It takes time for a GB to wear down Transports, esp. armored ones, say a univ. 8 PTrans, with guns. Time it doesn't take a Bomber for the same job, since it's deshield, make the thing run out of Shieldbatts, SN. Two Bombers working together will just try to insta the thing with a double SN if the armor's low enough, and a Bomber has to just do that, fire the SN or a Novatorp at a transport, then dodge. A GB even with BRs has to keep up the fire to deliver a constant stream of damage. Bomber shoots once, dodges. GB stays there shooting at the Transport. A possible logical development of that scenario woulda' be that there'd be more GB escorts to counter the Bombers, since GBs simply do best against those (from my experience), but that still wouldn't prolly save them Transports, since it's still the GB wearing Bombers down with guns, or trying to BR-insta, which's hard to do against targets that aren't shooting the GB, or rather harder than as if they were. Eitherway, Transport'll prolly go kablooey. So sooner or later escorts would fall back into the 'useless' category for the people who Q_Q already about 'em being that way. Plus even if Piracy in GBs wasn't possible anymore, GBs still would stick around for backup-support once them Escorts or whomever started to bring their GBs to bear vs. Bombers etc. In other words, wouldn' change much. Whoever explodes now woulda' still explode, you'd just see different ships being used in the best case, but even then just a little 'cuz the most prominent ship used for piracy around is still a Bomber and not a GB. It's cheaper, faster, can run away much easier from any kind o' gank or w/e than a GB can and it gives you insta-capability against poorly-armored Transports, which a GB doesn't. Not much of a big deal there.
' Wrote:So, what do you think about this hypothetical scenario. Remember, its not a suggestion.
Could work as a venting device to shift Q_Q to something else for a while and give people something to whine about, not much else. Wouldn't affect me personally, I pie-rat/extort in Fighters and, now that I've a handful, Bombers, but I prefer being universally-useful with my VHF. Trashed my Funship long ago already.
[color=#FFFF66]'Sides, best escorts still stay those that prevent people from getting pirated in the first place, so meh. /piesteak
