Sketchup is a low level modeling program used for models that don't need to be either pretty or stable. The latter can actually be pulled off if you know what you're doing, and the former in regards to blocky ships is entirely possible. However don't expect to be modeling anything smooth and having it look half decent with SU.
CHAPTAH ZWEI, YEEE!
As for the model itself, it lacks detail and is extremely blocky, and also contains several geometry errors, such as...
* Polygons floating off into space (ie; the second half of the circle that're hanging off of the wings).
* Unneeded edges (any edge on a flat surface that can be deleted without deleting a face).
* Flipped normals (white sides of the polygons should be visible, blue on the inside).
* And I'm sure you probably have a lot of internal faces (ones that can't be seen from the outside of the model and serve no purpose) there as well.
That having been said it's about ten billion times better than my first model that was, you guessed it, also done in Sketchup, seen bellllooow;
Stick with it, take the time to learn a new program that's actually made for making things look pretty, I'd recommend 3ds max, and make lulz at my first model. Everyone's gotta start somewhere.
The ship is good for a 1st try, but dunno sketchup is not a powerful 3D program. I am using Cinema 4D and satisfied with it. It was the only 3D prog that I learned to use after few minutes. I mean how to make primitives, move them, select, create polygons. Its UI is very intuitive imo, unlike 3DS Max or Lightwave. BTW Lightwave is great too. The ships in BSG was made with it.
Metasequoia is half decent for learning the basics, but it's a terrible modeling program.

After some more work, I went a different way. I am now able to create hitboxes in Sketchup. The program can do bad things to your effort, but it can work if you know what to watch for.
So, keep on, in Sketchup or something better. You have a chance to make great stuff.
One last advice:
If you want to take a good screenshot in Sketchup, go to File > Export > 2D Graphis
It will have anti-aliasing and you can also choose the resolution.
