If there is a reoccurring problem with the eye...get rid of the eye. Problem solved.
On the contrary, I don't believe phantom limb syndrome would really be an issue. Unless the optic nerve is severed, he will technically still have his eye, it would just be hanging down a fair bit from the right socket.
I didn't intend to imply he should get rid of it completely. My bad. Although, if the optic nerve were severed & was long enough, it could be reused as a paddle ball toy with a simple addition of a paddle and a staple.
