I greatly enjoyed the Olympics, but I think being a fan of sports in general is a bit uncommon here on Disco. Having participated and competed in a handful of the sports, I guess I have a special appreciation for the amazing accomplishments of the athletes who make it there - and not just the years of work they put in themselves, but how advancements in technology and our understanding of the human body makes their achievements possible.
Just wish the coverage here in the States had been a bit better this time around.
1. Every opening ceremony has sucked for every Olympics ever. All of them... Every last one. They're always a sort of in-joke for the people who live in the host country. People outside the country don't get it, and people inside the country think it's a bit stupid and self-celebratory.
2. Yes I love the NHS. It's saved my life on more than one occasion. Yes I think the model should be used by other countries. A health service which is tax funded and free at the point of use, open to everyone... Epic idea, and it works. Did Danny Boyle need to make such a big deal out of it? Not really.
