Govedo, I hope your pictures will help get leaders back to game. I'd give all my OP ships for more leaders in-game. I can't use them well anyway. I can have tons of fun with any ship, if leaded well.
Sadly, being shown pictures of ships of the same class being vastly different sizes (and generally unbalanced because of it) will not suddenly make RL give me a break. I really do appreciate the sentiment, though.
Moral of the story: You can be active and have fun even with rubbish ships. Cool and/or good ships help, but they are not a golden bullet against inactivity.

Try to come up with proper way to award the leaders for their time- one free SRP per faction for example or any unique ships/features- then more people would like to lead.
Second problem is that the good leader could be the active one.
I tried and found out that it is not possible to solve all faction issues if I does not spend at least 3-4 hours per week for this, even good organised factions where the decisions are not taken by single individual but made in leadership body are time consuming without any bonus for the ones that do it.
Also there are leaders that keep the position without being active and helping the faction because they like to have the position of power- this is the bad thing as well.
i second this, notoriety is something that should be rewarded... we take an example of EVE and their UNIQUE battleships given to faction liders and contest winers also
about the PvP rules and mambo jambo i don't really understand it, may be because im more a warthorn person ill pit my BS agaist your fighter ON SIGHT if i see you on a reachable space freelancer is a game about commerce, friendship, rivalry about discovery about much things
BUT IS ALSO A GAME ABOUT WAR
and in war a tank crew will not stop and take down one of their soldiers to have a duel with infantry in a war if a tank sees a single enemy soldier or a squad, it engages it
and we know what a Phanter 2 (die rheinland panzerkraft!) tank can do to a unwarned squad of 5 men
other thing is
some factions have coherent statements about being more technologically advanced than others... im not advocating to myself but RH and BHG are an example we could understand ships with hardened hulls and powerfull engines come from those factions since Rheinlandic attitude is much the same as germany and we know what Bismarck did to hood and PoW and to other several INS (bretony... XD) ships (heck that steel turd holded 2600+ shells before sinking and there wasnt a single explotion he filled up with water because his systems failed) BHG in other part are people used to deep space and borderworlding and they kinda have a both libertonian and rheinlandic influence so a mix between to is understandable
now, im not saying this from my bisceral incarnated genocydial hate to unlawfull and pirates but some of those factions are made of a bunch of poorly mannered cardamine hooked traumatized child/prostitutes they hardly have enough brains to get into their fighters and pew pew undefended IC whales so we could understand some technical inferiority on those i made this clear they are not ALL like that, f. ex. RHA can have a lot of tech from mining ships to build strong hulled industrial grade brickships with mining lasers upgraded to military use and if you see their BS that's what they have
so stop the q_q and if you want to do something do like me... im being teached by Jinx how to have the proper quality standart to make a serious contribution to the server... may be some day my templar-like sirius wide anti terrorist force will be a reality until so ima starting slow, helping where i can...
you know what? im just goint to take this away before someone feels aluded... XDDDDDD

So frankly, no thanks. It is far too much work for the returns.
*nods* I agree, must be as it is. But, good old Govedo gave us suggestion that we could talk about here:
- unique ships/features for leaders.
Is it hard to give one <Faction> Leader ID for each official faction? One magic ID, like Spec Ops ID devs already developed, so each leader could make his Dream Flag Ship. And if that is not enough, just put 10% more power in (10% negative nerf, lol). Who would leave THAT ship docked for days? Who would rather skype/forumlance, instead of leading his team to more battles?
Let them use additionally buffed OP ships of their choice, instead of playing Eve because some ships are OP in Disco.
We have a Roll Play Game here, but no magic items? No heroes? How come?
That's the thing about fun, everyone has their own take on it and it's damn near impossible to keep everything balanced while catering to those tastes. In reality the dev team can't make this game balanced, all they can do is put in systems and rules to try to keep it in the acceptable zone. The rest is up to us as players, which is the root of the problem as you guys have already said.
It brings my thoughts to the stickied post in the general forum that says "Trust - The priceless commodity everyone needs" well I don't agree with that, what we need isn't just trust we need consideration. If every single person stopped for a moment to consider the player they are interacting with it'd go a long way to improving things. It may never happen, people are too focused on winning or being the best to consider someone else's fun. You only need to look at these forums to see how evident that is. All these ideas on how to make the game better but too few who actually do anything to that end. If you want more RP get out there and make some, if your faction is boring take it upon yourself to improve it.
I think Gov is on to something regarding the skype stuff. Too many deals are made through it, same goes for the forums. Instead of using those to make a deal why not do it in game? Making a trade deal? Why not get your faction together and do it personally.
Some of the best times I've had were convoying with the BPA, we once went into Rheinland in our transports to supply Krupp. We were met by the RM and had a good laugh when my liner kept getting stuck in the lanes. Shame it was stopped after our second run, god knows why, it produced a lot of activity for both sides. When bases were put in we had fun tracking down the suppliers and building ships but then the sieges sucked in the fun right out of it, who wants to sit staring at a base for three hours, honestly? Sorry I'm ranting a bit but you get the point.
There is still plenty of fun to be had, it just needs people motivated enough to do it and for people considerate enough to let it happen.
Love & Good Will are always welcome guests, dude. But without at least one good motive – they tend to party on another place.
What leaders can get from Disco? What could be their motives? Let’s see pro and contra.
PRO: /CONTRA:
heads up /tons of messages to read
influence /tons of messages to write
power to make changes /responsibility if changes are bad
more friends /more not-so-friends
respect /disrespect (from ones mentioned line above)
help people /lack of time to help them selves
... and so on, you get the picture.
On the other hand, when a player gets so deep in FL, isn’t it logical to go a step forward and accept all this pros and contras? It is, but motive’s needed to stay. If motives are good, would so many good leaders (and many good old players) leave Disco?
For example, one of leaders was angry because some ships are OP, so noobs could use them nice. He was talking and talking it was wrong and gave up now. I’m sure he’d be with us now if he had a choice:
to have leader-exclusive access to the same OP ships, but even more OP (negative nerf with leader ID)
or
to make his favorite standard ship OP, equip it with all possible gadgets and than show to all OP motherf-ers what OP is
I’d say that Freedom of Choice and Right Motive are making things go on, rather than Love & Good Will.
