mmm... trade lines able to welcome any sort of traveler through their system, its not entirely incorrect if the trade lane rings depend on a passive hyper-space field that keeps resonating continuously over and over again, when a ship approaches and activates its own hyper-space field both ring and ship fields combine launching the ship through the rings. Think of a bubble of air forming underwater, the only way it can go is "up" the deeper the bubble forms the smaller it is but as it approaches surface it grows bigger as pressure is minor.
The armed guns mounted on the rings are another matter, they do have IFF sensors and optical recognition systems, if possible the guns should be stronger to attack any hostile ship to it IFF affiliation, preventing rogues and pirates from using the lanes.
Good idea, that way, lane will also be safer, CAUSE WE, pirats, WON'T BE ABLE TO PIRAT THEM ANYMORE EITHER...
I think some people need a teaching... To pirat a lane :
1)Go next to the lane.
2)Wait for a ship to come.
3) fire at the lane until it has no more 'life'.
4)Ask for money (nota : "10M or die isn't much appreciated)
5)wait for the lane to be automatically reactivated and let the ship you pirated go.
6)Go away before a navy/cop come where you are and arrests you.
7)Dock in a base and enjoy your money.
In case of you haven't seen, this procedure include staying a long time next to the lane to be able not to miss any possible target... I'd like to enlight the fact that lane are flat, and equiped with 2 turrets (which mean they have no safe angle).
This appart, this idea was... good...
OK for gentle RP, OK for gentle PvP too. What do you prefer ?

Are you sure there are turrets on these lane ? 'cause my werewolf is, I guess, smaller than your ship...
Appart, this is not question of finding blinspots on lane, it's question of beeing able to go next to a hostile lane.
I have another argument : you accidently shoot at a NPC, or forgot to drop your shipment... Then, everything around goes hostile, you try to take nearest lane to avoid repkilling by self-defense... And it shoots you faster than the ships you're trying to escape from... No problem for me I guess *ironic*.
Lawfuls have as much arguments as unlawfuls to drop your idea in garbage box, sorry.
