I think it will be better, to change it.
U should be neutral with liberty, to use libertys gates and lanes. If u are hostile to them, u can only use the Jumpholes, but not the gates or lanes.
i think, the next mod 4.85 should change it, cause its more realistic for RP.

That sounds.. logical o.o
When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.
Anyway, there'd have to be a whole lot of new jump holes added for this to work. Some pathways are impossible or impractical for unlawfuls to traverse. One that comes to mind is California to New York, via jump holes.
You would think Digital Anvil would make it like that though.
As said above. Its only logical. And if the lanes are dockable so should the planets when hostile. Might make sence if you where a smuggler to be able to dock with planets and not with lanes and gates.
But I also believe its coded....:)
"Three o'clock is always too late or too early for anything you want to do."
I personally hack all the lane I take as LR... I have "lots of friends in LH who send me the codes when I ask", and my hack fail after a moment, 'cause "Aigera fix the hack and change the codes"...
OK for gentle RP, OK for gentle PvP too. What do you prefer ?
Hurk hurk hurk...

Gotta go to texas first.
I think this should be the major downside of being unlawful, that you simply can't travel as fast.
Trade lanes are unbelievably stupid devices- I believe its even mentioned in the Liberty backstory, but since they are designed for public and emergency use, there aren't any codes required. Jumpgates are a little more sophisticated and major ones are usually operated by border stations- if you are hostile to the border station, you should probably find another way into or out of there. However, being designed for public and emergency use, and without any personnel operating them, they are remarkably easy to trick, and are more or less open to anyone, even if they should be avoided for the most part.
I'm not sure how, if tradelanes are so stupid, the lane hackers became rich...I would say that there's a problem with the underlying rp of the lanes...lane hackers cannot be the only people hacking lanes, because every criminal group seems to do so...but...They are the only ones with background, and the lanes and gates are supposed to be very secure secrets...
If you remember, Trent didn't have access codes for any gates in the beginning. So, there's something broken there, and I'm not sure how to fix it without massive work.

The way I understood it, while lanes are easily disruptable and usable, the Lane Hackers make their fortune off being in the right place at the right time- they know the schedules, they know the escort strength, and rarely fail to take down transports laden with valuable commodities.
However, you bring up a good point- jump gates do need some sort of code, at least the ones within the houses anyway, and while it is possible that criminal organizations have a few legit operations providing them with codes, they would try to only use those resources when necessary, and stick to jumpholes when possible to avoid getting tracked. The same goes for tradelane use, in a manner of speaking- both Ageira and the Lane Hackers know when a trade lane is being used, and by whom. Unlawfuls would try to avoid them to get around the inevitable response force waiting for them at the other end. But, if it comes down to military cruiser hounding you vs civilian militia hounding you, they might take their chances with Ageira's goons rather than the cruiser.
