Ahhh, outrunning pirates in a small trading ship is one of the most exhilarating things I love about this mod.
"You David Attenborogh stop your engines"
Such a wonderful... if not macro'd line to me. I assume the wombat position and float about, then, like a bird I immediately fly to the jump gate and get to the next system and try my luck.
The angry Hacker gives chase, riled by my lack of respect and monies inserted into his wallet.
Lord and behold, on the other side of the abyss, is a Liberty Assault Carrier, I experience a euphoric moment of hope, and as expected, the Hacker jumps into the system too. I can only imagine his reaction as being "Oh God why?". I quickly ask for assistance, and like a silent sentinel, he opens fire on my assailant.
With great fury and utter desire for vengeance, the Hacker focuses all fire onto my innocent yet fragile frame, to no avail. As time passed more Hackers of unknown origins came into the battle, engaging the silent sentinel while I flail around like an assaulted fish.
However, as the dastardly man I am, I escape, leaving a very angry and vengeful Hacker in my wake. Who eventually, perished in the encounter.
Science, coupled with luck, creates a very happy documenter.
This has been David Attenborough.
"Lol, I haz luck"
To that pirate, you know who you are, asking for a million from a Camara, which is about half of what I had at the time, whilst carrying Consumer Goods? Shame on you sir, level 42 does not equal loaded. I've avoided Legates in Mining Ships, (yes, it was illegal rule wise but they tried) I will not be pirated in a Camara.
There's something romantic about flying the little biddy freighters.. sure you're not making the $$$, but the kind of thing Fletcher recounts is priceless.
I have a story of my own, with Lane Hackers trying to pirate my Mastodon.
Ahh, the sheer adrenaline rush when you're running from pirates in a 5k. Just the fact that you know running is a bad idea, and that you're going to get caught, seems to add more excitement to the chase.
I was in my Mastodon, the LLS-Fort.Benning, ex-indie Navy trade vessel sold to Ageria Technologies. I was passing through California, when I stumbled upon an IMG miner in a Hegemon getting shot up by Lane Hackers. One of them noticed me, I believe it was LH~Oddball. He CD'd on my way to the jump gate, because I had made my presence clear by typing in local chat. Luckily for me, I was about ~760m away from the NY JG before he could question me.
Upon entering New York, I was quickly apprehended, with him asking for a donation. I said no, and then started to engage in small talk with him while edging toward the lane. When he noticed, he shot out the lane, but pissed off a Cryer "Titanic", which shot at him. When he was strafing around to avoid getting hit, I slowly thrustered ahead to the point where the front of the Mastodon was touching the lane.
To pass the time, and stall him, I said things like "Maybe we can work something out, with us both being Ageria employees and all.", but he was hell-bent on making me jettison all my cargo.
The instant I saw that bar go blue, I pressed F3 so hard I swear it resonated around my room. Before he shot out the lane, I managed to get away.
This has been the Captains Log of the LLS-Fort.Benning.
Biggest "wtflol" moment I ever had was in a clusterbrawl in Tau-23 back in 4.85 - the usual Sabre versus Nyx pews that were common at the time. The battle was leaning in the OC's favor, I was fighting in my IMG Nyxie. At some point I had about 3 of em chasing me and I think I was the last one. Then in comes the cavalry - a big old MNS Ranseur with a plan. I hear the "Incoming missile" sound twice and figure, let's get creative (knowing those missiles have a pretty big proximity detonator and do not respect IFF). I switch aft view briefly to see where that MNS is and then fly directly away from it, strafing a bit but not altering course... and hope for the...
*Boom!*
Triple blue message, and everything that was behind me, aside from that BS, is no more! I laughed so hard that day my neighbour came over wondering what the hell was going on
