Is Connecticut needed?

Seeing that it has zero effect on server RP and people are busy playing Diablo 3 anyways, so player slots aren't an issue, I have to say leave it as it is now, really., even though I agree that some people spend way to much time there. However, better they train there than in front of Malta or Crete.

I'd prefer to have a "test server" where people could play around, build ships with play money, test tactics, etc.

this is an RP server, in a space-boat game. RP should drive PvP, not the otherway around. Conn is a total waste of bandwidth imho. last time i was in conn was... 2009?

this is a server for people to polish their RP. if you want to polish your PVP, try another server. theres prolly a lot less lag/loss there too.

Okay, Time for my complimentary 2c.

Firstly, Let me be clear that I have only been on this server for roughly a month (I tried it once a few years ago but found it to be highly frustrating.... I wasn't interested in Role Play at that time). The Majority of my Freelancer time has been based on PVP Servers (Jolt.co.uk, Hamburg City, J4F etc....) and its something I've always been good at.

The roleplay here is fantastically enjoyable, Its nice to argue everything in a completely different light and the mod simply Exacerbates this effect, Simply put.... I'm very impressed with this game.

But if I want to train, I can no longer do it in my native Kusari (We've been asked by several people not to) and must do it in Connecticut. And training against Chimaera's everyday dulls the senses for other ships, Leaving me weaker in battle.

The real joy of Connecticut are in the variety of training it can offer, In the past several days (During times when Activity in Kusari is low, And times I cannot possibly wish to trade) I have come against Light Fighters from the Omicrons, Super Heavy Fighters from Rhienland and Battleships from Liberty. Now tell me, If I were to avoid Connecticut entirely and stick within my role of the Kusari Police Force Then how would I ever prepare myself for such engagements? How would I teach others such abilities to fight any coming opponent? Put quite simply, I couldn't.

You may argue that it has no valid place within the server, and that may be true within a core argument of Role Play, But this server also Pushes PVP as part of its core mechanics, and if a Ying must have a Yang, Why should we have Role Play with no PVP? Otherwise, Let us all switch to single player and let this argument drown in its own self pity.

He seems to make a most convincing point why Conn SHOULD exist.

In addition to this well-thought-out piece, I'd like to add in my own words. Since this is an RP-server, there are times when, playing as a character, I like to play under the guise that if my ship is on the receiving-end of the blue-message, that means my character is either:

a.) dead

b.) in their escape pod, their ship in shambles, waiting for rescue to come.

Even though game-mechanics make sure you get to fight another day quickly, I'd like to call myself a hardcore RPer, in a way that I'd imagine the game worked like EVE (if your ship is scrapped, tough luck; if your pod's destroyed, game over).

Since most people like to live, thank you very much, there comes the question, "where the hell am I going to train to prevent myself on being the receiving end of the blue-message?" That's where Conn comes in. A place where I can train to my heart's delight, and RP it as an online "virtual training ground" where my character can train in various fighting scenarios. And when I do finally get into a fight IRP, I am rightfully-ready to get my character to live another day.

Edit: Oh, and to answer the question as to dealing with most people staying there instead of RPing, or the amount of "lolwuts" staying there? That's their decision, and you MUST respect that, or else you are no lower than them. Be an example instead. Invite those lolwuts to RP instead of bashing them with a banhammer, and make it fun and easy for them. Maybe take a piece of your RP to Conn, but NEVER impose it upon them. If they still pewpew for lulz, then you've done your best, and it's not your fault.

Perhaps... but the thrill of knowing your character could die at any minute can do stuff to your psyche in the long term. And I'd like to keep it sane as much as possible.

Where I would train PvP with guard systems removed? Corporations haven't guards at all, where their security wings pilots would train fight on their ships? It's rather hard to train in Halle when nobody's from RFP online or can't/don't want to. Not every faction has activity of IMG or Samura. In Conn I always can meet someone, moreover, I can train against my inRP main opponents, Hessians, on their and mine respective ships, without ooRPly inviting them to Halle with // mark, only for one duel.
