That said, a damage/energyconsumption increase is something that can be considered.
That was an extreme case when lonely BS will find itself against lonely cruiser with 2-3 pulses and a mortar.
I'm keeping in mind that these missiles were as well in targeting against cruisers in 85, and now they have their DpS halved. Because of what exactly? Cruisers aren't meant to take on the all-round battleship alone either, although it was possible(even if hard), in 85.
I've been playing "capswarm" type of battles for months (or a year alrdy, but I know it's not much compared to many here), both on very light (EDGE thresher spam) and heavy (Hamburg, rheinland cruiser) cruisers/capships, and I never found missiles to be candidates for DpS halving. If anything, they can force a destroyer/cruiser into evasive maneuvers and increasing distance with you, that will make him spam his mortar with less accuracy and refire rate. Also, when we talk about teamfights, and not just cruiserspamming enemy, there're other caps present on the field, and you just cannot concentrate on missiling one poor cruiser with 0.09 DpE.
At same time I did manage to heavily damage many cruisers with them, although not kill - it's always easier achieved with cruising up them. I guess it depends on your ability to fight in capfights (well, mainly on cruiser's ability to keep him
Back then, 1 missile simply wasn't enough, and 2 missiles with 0.10 RR weren't that "bad" from both cruiser and battleship perspective (receiver and sender's end), and that's when you weren't making a big sacrifice for them. In 86, 1 missile with 0.05 refire rate is just a joke.
As for gunboats, their main role in teamfight with caps is to die from a cruiser when it'll have a spare time. Which is fine, taking into account what they can and cruisers can't.

If you're on light dread (preferably libdread) and you're going to kite like crazy at 2.5, thats a good tactic. If you're going to enter medium to close range battle, wasting your energy and heavy slot on 0.09 DpE weapon (spending 2m energy for 180k hull / 90k shield damage), while enemy went full cerberus and evaded your mortar from 4k distance (and hell, I managed to do that even with a Valor), or even if he's just going with prims, is a very bad idea. Also, those missiles can be countered with 700k energy from his side.
I still stand that they're UP.
P.S. hey, wait, were you talking about mortaring cruisers?:D(because of that 1-2 mortar hits to kill the shield, if it's not the HM you're talking about).
On one hand I would love to agree with you and say that they are underpowered.
On the other, I just had two battles with people spamming missiles at my cruiser.
I can tell you, that is no fun, there is just no way you can evade them and even a hvy. CM doesn't do the job for long because of the limited ammo. You will run out of them very quickly or just get hit anyway.
Maybe take away missiles from BS?
But heh, I won't mount them on my BS, even if it's tempting to have a "hit the fire button and wait"-weapon on your ship.
Oh, and please increase the Rheinland Cruiser missile range. It seems to not track at ~4.5k, which is when you are already under heavy fire by BS'.
The use I tend to find for missiles is for dealing with multiple targets. Like I said in my example, its good to have a weapon you can use on heavy enemy ships while your trying to Swat bombers off you. The issue is that the thing is so dam useless now. I didn't get a single kill mainly because I had to keep switching priorities. I'd do some heavy damage to 1 or 2 of the bombers and I suddenly take a few mortar hits from the cruiser. I have to open the taps on all of my heavies to push the cruiser back and out of range, by the time I've done that the bombers are recharged and back to riping my ship to bits. Continue cycle for about 15 mins and its no guess whos hull ended up breaking.
The issue is, from what i've heard anyway, this was done deliberatly to stop BS missiles being spammed on fighters, but it'll make no difference will it.
If I wanted to I could stick 3 missiles on my Dread, scrapping the mortars. I could still insta kill fighters with that. All this refire nerf has actually done is reduce the effectiveness of missiles against the targets THEY WERE MENT FOR.
To be honest the turret splitting has sort of fixed the missile spam issue, its no longer practical to have 2 missiles anymore since you sacrafice heavy slots to them. But the insta killing fighter issue is STILL POSSIBLE. And just because I don't think its worth sacraficeing more than 1 heavy to a missile, doesn't mean others will think the same way.

The amount of things going on so far I'm just worried that some of the rather bad issues effecting me may slip the radar like most other online games I play.
