I've hit a bit of a snag in trying to work the map properly. There's a nasty trade shortcut going from east Kusari to south Bretonia, which goes over the Sigmas, Omicrons and Omegas. While NPCs had their CDs this wasn't so much an issue, getting hit a few times with a cruise disruptor slowed you down enough to make the time difference moot. However, this is no longer the case.
Right now, the distance by lane from Honshu planet to Cambridge planet is roughly 22 minutes. The same distance by hole is around 16 minutes. This is a problem.
I've analysed the route, and the Theta/Omega 41 hole is one of the ones that is providing much of this shortcut. I'm tempted to simply delete this jumphole. However, I'm not sure which factions all are using it and for what purpose.
Consequences I see:
- Lawful traffic is directed over the tradelanes, where the usual piracy can occur. Especially Sigma 13 is likely to heat up a bit once Sairs and Casts both set up shop there.
- Clearer boundary between Omega and Omicron space: Much like Tau/Omicron only connecting via Omicron Alpha, Omega and Omicron space would connect only by Omicron Gamma.
- Trade bound for the Omicrons would either have to go over Sigma space, or deal with passing through the Corsair homeworld. This would prevent most house faction from sneaking around into the Omicrons (where frankly, they do not belong).
- It would draw more activity into Gamma (that isn't capraid related).
- Longer routes from the Omicrons into house space could allow for better prices on goods on that run.
- It would make Freeport 5 a more important station as people couldn't just divert to Freeport 9 one system over.
I see none of these as bad consequences. Just wondering if I missed something. It's been known to happen;)

Well I dont see any reasons for that not to happen. Exept one - there would be much more people passing throu Gamma. but this have its good sides too.
To make Gamma more defended from those people Id propose to make more powerful weapon platforms, so there wont be an easy way for powertraders. not enough to insta kill transport but enough to scratch its hull
also what about Lambda-Eta systems? Will you leave em as they are or will delete them? after we had so big distance between OC/Corsairs whole 2 hispanics war has stopped. and I still see enough people in Alpha to make a raid
@ AD , that looks like a fine idea to me!
will make things more interesting.

If ya ask me , that distance isn't so big at all.
too annoying route for your big capship? good.
Seeing legates in alpha :

Well if you keep Sigma - Omega connection that way, it will cause some nasty occasions to ones who will decide to travell through Gamma. I like it.
It will be implemented by saying bye-bye to O.Theta - Omg.41 jumphole, right? I find it an absolutely necessary change, which will bring alot of activity into Corsair house, while giving them a small advantage as well (no need to wait for Hessians from Thetaa, for example).
Sure thing we still have two freeports on both sides, from where enemy battleshps are being deployed (That are freeports! Not even a shipyards! Why would there be numerous faction capital fleets stored?).
Unfortunately that makes so-called raids very easy for interested parties, with only difference that they won`t (I hope) come from one place at the same time.
But that aside. If you decide to isolate Gamma that way, which means increased traffic through it, wouldn`t it be a bit odd to have two mentioned Freeports at both sides? Now, by having o41-O.Theta connection their presense can be somehow approved, but mentioned change should turn those mentioned Freeports at least into Corsair outposts! I am not sure if Corsairs would feel comfortable while being *surrounded* by that raid-platforms.
The Freeport question must be solved as well to prevent possible trespassers from fleeing.
Also this:

Like I said, we're going to try to push the Sair/Cast conflict into the Sigmas, kinda where it belonged in the first place and if I've heared correctly, it was for quite some time. The fate of the remaining Hispanic Omicron systems hasn't been decided yet. Something will be done with them. Not sure what yet.

Keeping lawful traffic in the lanes and thus focussing the gameplay on the "main routes" is a good goal. Especially the Sigmas can do with a bit more traffic (remember S13 and frankfurt being piracy hotspots and tense to travel through?).
I'd rather have more people in the main areas of the game than people sneaking around somewhere.
And if they decide to sneak around somewhere (as it is safer), they should have to buy that safety with more time.
So... ye... I like your proposal.
But as I am not directly affected, I am curious whether there are some reasons why it should remain there after AD made the case against it.

I see a BIG consequence that was 'missed', that jump hole is a Vanilla Jumphole and if it's deleted that's yet one more thing that will be gone, further turning the game from Freelancer into Somethingelselancer. As I am generally against entirely removing something that is Vanilla FL, for ANY reason. Might I suggest, if anything, just move it instead of;

Secondly; Is a measly 6 minutes really that big of an issue to warrant such a drastic measure? In my opinion, NO, and here is why.
- By taking the lanes there is less risk of being pirated, and lawfuls can be called in for support if they are around.
- By taking the Sigmas > Theta > O-41 > O-5 > Cambridge route, that risk goes WAY up since it's pretty much flying through pirate territory the entire route. Not to mention the minefields, and radiation damage in O-41, and the TWO Corsair bases you have to fly past.
To me the 6 minutes saved are the reward for the extra risks taken by flying that route, through pirate space/minefields/radiation, with almost no chance of anyone being around to call for help.
If there is a problem with House traders using oorp routes, why not simply add a line to House trader ID's stating they can't go outside of House space and the immediate systems bordering House systems. Instead of punishing Freelancers (who have less cargo capacity/profit margins) by making a perfectly ok route, longer, in an attempt to deter House traders from using a route that is oorp for them.
then I do hope 'Omicron 56' is a go. Otherwise the Core needs to haul its arse through Gamma to get to their main ZoI. Which is quite... eh.... no. Just no.
hmm, well easiest fix would be to increase lane speed, wouldnt it?
Trading sucks already. Too much time spent compared to profits.
Let me give you a good example;
I know a quick route (lawful) that gain around 18m net profit in 20 minutes. Not great, but short and relatively pirate free... 20minutes... so 3x18 = 54m/hour
I also know that i can, with just one wingman in a dessy make 128m/hour in Eta doing missiones. That is if I keep almost all money myself.
I also happen to know that profit (if you mine yourself) for miners pr hour can easily exceed 70 millions.
So upping lane speed, either on certain places, or all together would have a more positive impact then moving/removing jumpholes.
