most hunters need to realize is that RP is not a means to an end (the 2mil or blue msg)- RP should be the goal itself!

PvP is the main part of bunter RP. They do RP mercenaries who go around shooting for money you know.

It was a poorly equipped gunboat with a fresh player inside it. Is it bad giving him a shot at surviving right at his own faction's doorstep? Should I have said "Oh hunter, go ahead and kill this guy, I'd better not help. Would you like a cup of tea while you are at it? I think there's a few unarmored Sabre players in Alpha, you want to go shoot them up too?". Of course I don't feel bad about giving a new player a break, especially when he wasn't the one seeking out confrontation and the hunter could have upped and left any time, had his pride character's maniacal pirate-hating temperament permitted it.

I'm not complaining that hunter RP is to get blues just like pirate RP is to get credits. I never said that anywhere (people should really start paying more attention to what is written). There are countless threads applauding the "good pirates" over the "bad pirates" - the ones that "want to RP" fall in the former category. When you extend this notion to bunters too, the sad truth is that most (not all) fall in the "bad" category - the ones that "don't want to RP". Bunters aren't under the same scrutiny as pirates generally are, and because of that some (not all) seem to "cut corners" with their RP. BUT there's excellent bunter RP out there, I have enjoyed having my head collected several times.

I am just complaining when you, as a player, are reduced to an extra on the scene - I think we can do better on a RP server than to treat each other like NPC's essentially, even in encounters between ID's hostile to one another. I'm complaining when players display totally unbelievable suicidal tendencies that clearly aren't fuelled by RP but rather by sore OORP player feelings.

Just so happens most hunters RP is to murder folk for sizable amounts of credits. Seems like he was roleplaying just fine to me. And I probably wouldn't go on about how lame someone is when you admit to feeding a fighter from a capital ship.

Aye, this was RP server before, now is just /setmsg 1 to ... , this server going more and more to PvP server , just :
bunters : /setmsg You have bounty on you head........bla-bla (taking 2-3 sec) and shooting beginns
hessian : /setmsg Die you cannibal.....(again 2-3 sec and ..)
sair: /setmsg Hessian here , engagebung ...

RP isn't just adopting a role, to really enjoy it you've got to make a bit of theatre about it. Think James Bond style witty banter ("Do you expect me to talk?" "No Mr Bond...I Expect you to die.") Set the scene a little, like so:

Hunter: Well what do we have here, a floating paycheck.
Pirate: Funny, I was thinking the same thing.
Hunter: Heh a pirate that thinks! Now I'v seen everything.
Pirate: At least you'll die fulfilled then.
Hunter: A wiseguy huh?
Pirate: If you're gonna shoot; shoot, don't talk.

And so on.
It may not apply to all cases but a little back and forth never hurts.

Here's an oddball for you then.

If my Bounty Hunter character is a taciturn rough sort who isn't particularly witty, these won't work. What then? My RP will be a bit similar to what the OP listed out...basically "Well Rogue...you know the drill. Defend yourself."

That's also perfectly legitimate roleplay.

You're right, it is legal roleplay. Still makes it douchebaggery.

Just signifies to me your 'character' is lesser educated and unable to say much more than 'kill'.

Because in the reality of it, we Rogues usually are not successful. So how would a Rogue 'know the drill' if you keep one lining killing them? Seems to me it's player saying to player I'm going to shoot your shit regardless of what happens. You make the character, not the character makes you. If you think being a dimwitted merc with one liners that literally do not make logical sense is the way to be, then you are part of the problem.
