I've just started playing it in the past two days, if any of you wanna find me I play NC on Mallory, as SuperSpaceRawr, and I play TR on Jaeger as SpaceRawr.
In just the time I've been playing recently, I've been thoroughly impressed with the fact that my laptop can handle it, as well as the fact that the graphics are extremely scalable and the visuals are impressive, even on low settings.
Also, persistent battlefields, if you make territorial gains, your faction may or may not still hold those territories several hours later.
It's really a pretty fun time sink, it's a lot like Battlefield, but with a larger scale, better teamwork, and a strong sci-fi flavor.
I have fun with it too, I have been playing for about a week as Terran Republic on a EU server (can't remember which) and Vanus on an aussie server. It's a bit confusing to begin with but it is rewarding when you get into it - if you are lucky and you are teamed with a great leader it can be a lot of fun to jump from planet to planet and initiate raids as a small part of a large platoon with several squads.
Large battles look impressive, even on a bad laptop like mine, and the f2p model kinda works - you still get to experience levelling up and getting new stuff at a decent pace, and even though some have gear that far exceeds what you have it doesn't really matter because the battles are so large and you will get killed again and again anyways. Über level players in hovering aircrafts camping spawn points can be a bit annoying, but on the other hand it can be fun to have to fight your way out.
On the negative side it isn't as "crisp" a shooter as BF3, but it far exceeds what I would expect from a "MMOFPS" in terms of just the gunplay. And it is somewhat generic in it's background descriptions and styling, like most other MMO's. But all that doesn't matter when you've just had a succesful bombing run at the control of a gunship's aft cannon and you jump out with a jetpack to finish off what's left of the enemy before moving on to the next squad waypoint.
This game requires a minimum of 4 GB ram to run it properly. Until I switched to my Win 7 64 bits couldn't play the game for more than 30 mins before crashing.
If anyone needs a liberator pilot you can find me at Miller. NC side, rockNoob the name. Ofc, you'll have to borrow me your liberator as mine is pretty much stock.
You'll also find me on woodman playing as vanu S named Bucifal. Most of the time in a lighting.
I stopped playing after everyone and their dog bought Doomsday Weapons for their gunships and fighters. ground battles have become kinda pointless when you cant move 30 feet without some gunship smashing you to bits. Q_Q

Strange. I've had very few problems with stability. Runs smooth and shiny most of the time. I've had problems with a couple of bugs, but those disappeared along with a few little fixes and updates.

Come play on Mallory. Slightly lower population means you end up with more infantry battles. Also, you get run over by your team-mates in tanks less frequently.

This happens much less now thank to the buffs to antiair and nerfs to aircrafts.
The gunships are really easy to take down if you manage to get some friends and work as a team ( and i mean REALLY easy).
This game is all about teamplay so it does require some teamplay skills , if you are the lone wolf superindy type this isn't the game for you.
The scale is absolutely mindblowing , you really see a huge sci fi war right in front of your eyes , and hearing your platoon members calling for backup at X location , the sound of machineguns , the amazing amount of players around you , it's just epic.
It takes some time to get into the game though , there's a lot of learning , but joining a outfit (as they call factions there) really helps a lot.
People are very helpful and strangely do not look down at all on your noobish first attempts.
probably because everyone can be important in this game, supporting your comrades as a medic or engineer is just as vital as being a great sniper or pilot , and the game rewards you a lot for teamplay in the form of certpoints that you can use for upgrades.
One thing i've noticed is that though these upgrades are cool , most of them are not vital to win in this game.
I am amazed that this game is free to play ,and doesn't constantly beg you for money.
If you are determent not to spend a dime to this game , it doesn't punish you for it.
As someone who became a gamer because of freelancer discovery , a downside of this game is that it appears shallow in the form of story.
You have no idea why you are fighting , other than capture that territory.
This is not at all a roleplay game but overall still feels very realistic , the massive scale and pure eye candy make up for it.
Another potential downside are the system requirements.
Though my new pc runs it smooth I hear a lot of stories of people with older systems who simply can't get it to run right.
The fact that with a decent pc it does run absolutely great and in my opinion shows the most beautiful eyecandy a game has shown since pacman came out makes up for that.
I'm playing NC side on the Mallory server as Madvillain in the MACS outfit if anyone's interested.
Thanks to Jose Benitez and JihadJoe for advising me to try out this game!
I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10!
