RParade, please do not presume to inform me about the house to whom I am Empress. I am well aware of Kusari's policies. Read the Veranda Incognita, the Uli Rouge, and the Diary of Sarah Rain for the entire story, but because I doubt you want to read all of that, I'll summarize.
The late Ambassador Fiona deLuna had something called The Pride of Kusari. It was a Kusari Diplomatic Destroyer, outfitted with minimal armament and few guards. It went from Omega 49 through Dublin, attempting to pilot itself to New Tokyo as per the last orders of the Ambassador.
Ever tried to fly a Kusari Destroyer through an asteroid field whilst being attacked by Mollys who hate you very, very deeply? The Pride of Kusari was wrecked, and the air sucked out into the great void of space. No one survived.
Come in the Ambassador's faithful butler, Mr. Richard Walters. He, along with the Junkers, contrived a method for spiriting the Pride of Kusari away. They disassembled the Pride of Kusari, took it to the system Ambulo, and reassembled it.
Right, so.. When you die and that ship explodes, how is it replaced?
You just build another one from wreckage? How does a Butler rebuild a Destroyer from scratch? Not even the Junkers are that canny. Christ, that even puts the Unioners to shame..
I realize some players probably put alot of time into finding ways to get that ship they like, but honestly.. Exceptions become expectations, and when one player sees another doing it they expect to be given the same luxury. This is why I don't think you should be flying a Kusari Destroyer (or any other House ship) unless you're part of that House. It only encourages everyone else to do it, and then when they're told they can't or shouldn't they get upset and angsty.
There's also nothing wrong with flying capitol ships as an independent (just so long as you're using the proper House ID to go with that ship), but as it stands currently you have Zoners flying Liberty ships and all kinds of other junk that could never, and will never make any sense.
If you honestly don't like my reason, you can refer to them and request that I be forced to make it change.
The plans for the Kusari Destroyer? Not that difficult. And I never said anything about an explosion. The hull ruptured on an asteroid, and forced the air out through pressure imbalances. They had the skeleton. All they need is metal.
Which they have. In abundance.
EDIT: Ah, you mean when I die in the future. Ah.
If you have a completed ship to study for several months, you're gonna be able to find out how it is made. Especially if your entire way of life is surrounded around that exact skill.
' Wrote:So you see, I do have a legitimate reason.
I can attest to it mate. Y'see, I worked for those Discordian lads on Gran Canaria. Saw the "Pride of Kusari" with me own eyes.. that is, when I had eyes. Just after savin' the Veranda from total destruction, I got, well, kilt.
Later, Ambassador deLuna delivered herself and her own family to heaven as well. Bit of a surprise, that.
We played a few hands of whist, I dare say.
If anyone has a history and a story justifyin' a ship, Ms. Harley has. You're barkin' up the wrong tree, I assure ya.
It's pointless to argue, 'cause the majority of you will continue to do whatever you want regardless all in the name of being "unique.."
I'm not going to pick apart your reasonings for having whatever ship you have under whatever reputation/affiliation you are, because even if I was to make this amazing argument that had infallible, unbeatable logic behind it you'd continue to play as you like anyway.
As you should, I guess. Thanks for your time spent.
Now, I think I've come to the rather obvious conclusion that not everyone is going to agree with how you roleplay your characters.
This is to be expected, I guess.
However, I'd much rather someone roleplayed in a way that I didn't like instead of just buying a capital ship with very little effort to play a role at all.
I would personally suggest making capital ship licenses being administrator-issued, like Terrorist IDs. I think that capital ships can be as game breaking as random terrorists.
This would either A) eliminate cap-whoring or B) waste the admins' time.
I just wanted to clarify by saying that suggestion would apply only to battleships, maybe to battlecruisers as well(excepting factionless groups like IMG). Seems moderate enough but then again it's just one man's opinion.
Well, i can say that you both have the point.
While it's legal to acquire any ship with good RP, it is giving a bad picture to everyone else.
There are actually many people out there writing a story only to get whatever ship they like.
Me and Starbutt did that as well, but only as a parody on everyone else doing so.
That said, I am pretty sure you are, as Shamus said, barking up the wrong tree.
Older members (1 year +) should have a luxury of doing so, as a reward for being part of this community for a long time.
It's one thing to acquire a ship for PVP reasons, and totally another for RP reasons.
Yes, some people do use RP stories to acquire a good ship for PVP pwning, but i am certain Harlequinn is not one of those.
So, you can both just stop arguing, because you are both right, in some way.
Don't flame me, I'm tryin' to help:yes:
Edit :
Just seen Blunt's post. While i do agree, it was discussed already.
Admins said something like this :
"Last time i checked this was still a free server, so no, there will be no limiting players in ship using, as long as they have a proper ID and Tag."
I just don't think it's doable, that's all.
Forbidding capital ships wouldn't help, it would just anger most people using them.
Discouraging people to use capital ships is the best way..
Only to find out how to discourage them.:)

It is every Corsair's responsibility to die a beautiful death in defense of Crete, regardless of how OORP or how capwhoring the opposition is. Launch your fighter, joust the battlecruisers and die a beautiful death. Then, drink it down in the bar.
I think blunt's idea is great, It would be really effective with a player wipe:). Have factions allowed 2-3 BS and 6-8 cruisers, and no more, and indipendants have to registere.

Oh, what's this I see? Yet another person attacking very well written RP that has been going for a minimum of 6 months? Ya, alright, my turn...
You don't think it's right for Richard Walters to fly a Kusari Destroyer? Well good for you, don't care, obviously. The destroyer of late Ambassador Fiona deLuna was wrecked, NOT destroyed. Meaning, it still exists and can be repaired! And yes, it means the character can fly it, as we have a reason. As Harley said, go read the threads. They're very well done and most have complimented and enjoyed them.
Now, as for people just wanting to fly their favorite ship? Well good, then can, go write a long RP for it and make it last a very long time, then get the ship. That's what has been done here, and I highly doubt we'll give in to a single person argument like your own.
Yes, there are some lines you don't cross. Example: Outcast ID with a Corsair Gunboat? No... BAF ID with a Kusari Destroyer? No. There are limits here and there, and they are followed with or without having to write them down.
Now then, before you start attacking EVERYONES roleplay (which is all I've seen in this thread), go read it first, I can guarantee you'll be surprised.
