Discovery lacks racing ships!

I approve of this message. I've always liked the idea of space races, with pilots being sponsored by rich groups and corporations like the guilds.

Some ships dedicated to this role would be really neat. Of course, you may end up with people using them to troll.. Which is why I'd make them completely unarmed. Maybe only let them use very weak shields with puny hulls, so they can't be used to bump into larger ships either.

What troll would use a ship which has no shields, no guns/CD, low hull and high costs?l Maybe even make it cost half a billion. It's at least a very special ship with high-tech engines.

And no, using LFs isn't the same. I'd love to see pure civilian racing ships which have no armament at all.

That's what I'm saying, Narcotic. Trolls would use them if they had any guns (you could still lower people's shields to 50% with persistence), or enough survivability to survive a collision.

Even not armed ship could be used to troll people by invading their faction's space, with them being incapable of hitting/catching it.

Make them have no shield and such paper thin armor that if they bump anything they blow up Then race through asteroid fields. Give em bluebell chainguns to shoot at each other for mini gun insta's

I would race ships. If they're paperships, I propose an Omicron Grand Prix.

The only troll value would be Alaska Crossing attempts. And people do that already. Its a sport. And part of any real multi-system race.

Although the entire idea might be good, i think that current light fighters may be used for racing just as well, the only issue being (possibly) their "military" orientation given by weaponry and such.

Still, this kind of ships would be something to behold and would probably (hopefully) give the players even one more good thing to do.

The only REAL issue (in my opinion) here... is the fact that players tend to forget about space races. I don't remember seeing any players ever racing honestly on Disco, not even in Conn at the racing rings...
The entire idea would be really interesting tough... to have two (or more) ships start at the same time and try to go trough multiple rings to end the laps, while only using thrust (maybe - and a simple thruster at that) so they won't always have the same speed, making the "maneuvering" what counts.
[And we can never forget about the whole bunch of people who are watching the race and place bets on who wins/loses.]

Create more difficult tracks, and make the ships' agility fairly low compared to their speed. Low enough that they'd have to brake to take corners and things like that. That'd actually making racing interesting.

It's a great idea narcotic.
And for all the people that say there aren't any races about,
I've participated in quite a few races in all different ship classes.
Just needs someone to organize the races, and having actual race ships ingame might give more incentive to actually race.
There's a race track in dublin btw.
