Downs: Prices go skyrocket...and even the worst one will cost around 40-50million and the best ones will go over 100-150mill.
Ups: Actually this increase of rarity can give some reason why these guns can be much better from some aspects compared to their civvi/military/(other stuff) counterparts.
This randomisation maybe can give the chance to everyone to get the so wanted code gun for free with a lost of luck.
Well I'm impressed by the favourable opinions. I did consider the potential price hike, but it could be that more wrecks can be added as they would not be found so often and that might in turn balance out the value of the loot. Alternatively, a better idea might be to keep the wrecks in specific places but randomly alter their cargo on-the-fly, as opposed to just randomly spawning them all over the shop. This way players can know in advance where the wrecks are located, but they cannot be sure as to whether or not there is anything in a particular one after a reboot as a proportion of them would be empty. Going back to the value of the guns; I actually believe that if such a system was successfully put in place, the values should in fact decrease because a broader variety of players would find them, instead of weapon dealers whom hoard it all for selling at inflated prices.

Random dude in fighter finds a codename. "I'll keep this."
Gun stays off the market.
Random code dealer finds a codename. "I'll sell this."
Gun goes on to the market.
Prices will rise because there are less guns on the market.
Although it's not price I'm worried about (because I'm rich), it's availability, because I'm impatient and want my guns asap.

Even if this system halved the number of codenames around (which it definitely won't, as codenames are being introduced far quicker than they're being lost), the amount of codenames will still be unrealistic.
Anyone considered FL companion here?
I have never bought CODEs. They are easy to get, as most CODE hunters camp spots with tiny little fighters. Just park a big ship there, and POOF! little starflee dies, you get CODEs.
20+ snubs, and all got CODEs from salvaging them, not buying.
What would make more sense is a system that puts a 100K open space area from all CODEs upon restart. So any ship camping them gets shot 100K away if in open space.
I used to pirate code hunters some time ago. Now i'm too into mercing with no free time at morning.
Anyway, prices for codes are already went fulltard so going even more fulltard will not make any diffrence.
Codehunting for money is pointless. With time even newbie can get any codegun and since codenames arent lost on death if mounted the idea of making codehunting more complicated wont give much impulse or interest to it. That's why I think such feature was not introduced by the devs.
Add perma-equip-lost-penalty and codehunting will be a real part of disco's unique gameplay.
Then maybe spice up things a bit whit this: Codes get damaged with use. And after some time they just blow off from the ship. These weapons are some experimental stuff right? So not every station have the equipment to repair them. Allow maybe to repair 50% of the overall damage. So after a 10% damage on the gun the owner can repair back only 5% and this means sooner or later but the gun blows off from the ship.
