Nothing strange about it. Ships and equipment cost credits. Morph ship ain't exactly cheap either. Besides morph ship and it's trial ID are tied together, mixing things up with open ID isn't really good idea as it's likely to introduce issues and ambiguity. The way things works now is fine: restart only gives ID, rep and moves your character to the base where you can purchase the actual ship. Simple and clear.
Morph and it's ID... May be they'll become discontinued, since there is considerable overlap between the two and that seems redundant. But then there are some notable differences as well.
@Anaximander: Since this really going off-topic and it ain't your soapbox I'll send reply to your PM instead. This thread ain't about official factions, higher standards or moral grounds.
@Tree: I'm replying to your PM. Let me just add here that I wasn't the one to open up the dance regarding faction/non-faction players, so keep your ammo for later. This isn't my soapbox any more than its yours or someone elses. I shall eject from the thread however.
Still very confused on how the 'faction' ideas go really.. Even unofficial.. Doesn't seem to fit really seeing how the nomads fly together, unless its just designating a 'group' of noms that stick together..

May be, or may be some will want to take on specific activity and play some other part of a whole collective. Granted though being stuck to Omicrons keeps a number of opportunities off the table, like expeditionary type fleets or far off scouts. Just long as there aren't going to be attempts to springboard a whole different type of aliens by using nomads as placeholder, cause if people want to make new type of aliens for Discovery they better take their ideas and plans to developers really.

Edited to highlight an issue with that line of reasoning. Effectively, the K'Hara are no different to the player faction of any other NPC group. Whether to acknowledge the fact that indies actually exist from a lore perspective is something for them to do or not.

It isn't a problem unique to the K'Hara / Nomads, nor do I personally think the Nomad ID is at all a bad idea. It's certainly brought activity back to the Omicrons. I was stating that I can see where some people are coming from who do find the concept of "independent Nomads" problematic for one reason or another.
