Whilst on one hand, I'm worried about creating a crap-load of extra work for the admins, who have a lot to do already, and I'm also worried about pogroms of the few independent players that play well, for the most part, I agree with Carlos Benitez in a rather strong way.
I do believe we have a real problem on our hands now, its been growing for awhile and it wont stop growing until something drastic is done.
I believe people should be able to fly cap ships (cruiser and up( on there RP grounds not on power trading for two days to get the bloody things.
Its spreading out from Gamma and Liberty and everyone will be more affected by it soon not just those systems and there surrounding ones.
Im sick of the independent cap whores in Gamma giving the Corsair factions a bad name, doing what they like and in the biggest ships they can fly. Undocking from Crete to find 3 Osiris's 4 Cruisers 6 Gunboats and a Dread is not fun and these guys don't listen, we tried being right with them and tried leading them in the right way but they honestly don't give two ****'s for the RP or the server rules.
Its NOT fun when two opposing factions are having a good FAIR fight 2 fighters against 2 fighters in Liberty just to find two minutes later theres a hoard of independents jumping in on the fight and making everything pointless.
I honestly believe cap licenses need to be handed out by the admin's or some other FAIR group based on peoples RP.
Im sorry to bring Freeworld server up but they don't have this problem at all because of there rule setup. Basically Independent/Civ's cant fly anything bigger than a gunboat, and factions are only allowed to have a few caps online at one time INGAME, was something like one battleship and 2/3 cruisers.
This also encouraged them to join in on the forum and join a faction!.
We could take on this but give independents the right to apply for a cap license.
I really hope this doesn't get brushed under the carpet... We really need to get something in place before it gets even worse.
Really, I don't see why they put so much fuss up about capital ships. The only one I own personally, the MNS Giustizia, just sits on Malta. I reach for my Sabre before I reach for it.
' Wrote:ian you say let them be. but you know how big fun from game you have when you will try pirate in fighter and after while you have 2 bs on tail? or when you fly as police somewhere and in some moments hunt you 2 bs?
maybe i am also cap whore i have my private dread, and i love it,but i will not fly with it through all systems only to find someone who has less firepower and armor to show him who i am.
it is not about ships who can and who can not buy them, but about that how and where the people will use them.
i dont know how fun it is(i am suspecting it is as fun as watching paint dry BUT some people do enjoy the chase) but if i seen a pirate being chased by two ships that are a cruiser of bigger i would not bother engaging either because it is severly overkill to chase 1 pirate in a fighter in huge hulking ships that could take it out in one shot if they wanted too and would be really unfair to the pirate, even if s/he is scum ;)
myself i am seriously thinking of creating a fighter/bomber/gunboat character and use them most of the time just to help in fights without acting like a brick wall that my enemys have to try and get through before they get to the person i am protecting or my allies.
i have my Flagship now (the Endeavor) and all i need to do is settle on a weapon system i am happy with and fix my tag and its good to go
' Wrote:One thing that comes to mind is that most people nowadays fly Battlecruisers or Destroyers/Cruisers. This is simply because they generaly cost a fraction of the price, don't need a liscense and are more agile and maneuverable while retaining similar firepower (espescially battlecruisers).

what Battlecruiser did you have? :s the battlecruiser i have isnt agile and only has 2 battleship turrents, it is basically a big clunky (as in old and not very manueverable) cruiser with 2 extra turrent points that doesnt really add much to my overall damage the only benefits i have had is when warning people to go away instead of trying to pirate me by saying "do you seriously want to risk your life and ship against Battlecruiser? this ship makes your ship look as big as an ant and with this i could probably crush you as one aswell, so the question is, do you feel lucky? punk!" (haha yes it is cheesy but it does work half the time ) and the other one is the armour, i have been saved a few times by the amount of hull armour it has
i am all in favour of the Admins to implement licenses for any ships bigger than a gunboat
When i say agile and powerful i mean compared to the other alternatives. Much stronger than a Cruiser (powerplant alone gives it that, and when you consider it can mount battle razors, inferno cannons or mortars, it gets much deadlier. Then you consider that it's a LOT more agile than a battleship. They're just a better choice for those wanting the "thrill" or owning people in a capital ship.
or more simple idea.make bs licence not as a scanner, but as not mountable item. as your cargo.when you are killed, license is gone and you need 250 milions for new. then you will see how much people will be sit in space in their bs.
Wow that'd...suck. If i had to pay 250m every time Graviton died our banks would be empty and the Rogue faction would be dead. I simply don't have that kind of money to spend every time we fight the LSF and Goliath comes online.
Well, Lets try to find a solution that wont give too much work for the admins, that will cut cap-whoring done by independents and make faction leaders happier:
So where should we start?...
What has been proposed is:
Licenses (BS) given only by admins......Too much work for them maybe
Forcing people into factions... We are already doing that...
Putting capital ships in guard systems... Could work, since some players will run out of patience before buying one...
Selling two kinds of IDs (one guard(allow caps) the other normal(max GB)...Could work too,,, and maybe they should be sold at an HIGH price( eg: 10 milion per Guard ID )
Restricting Caps to factions... Forget about it, it will destroy all the community
Encouraging people to get on the forum,,, already doing that too...
Licensing facility owned by a group that has no influence on Disco RP(like the Angels)... Could work but we need admins aproval for it.

I know it well and it is NOT fun.

It makes sense! I have hope that admins will make something about it before it will spread much more then it's now.
kingvaillant: that idea with guard system (moving all caps to their guard systems) and 2 different IDs is good for a begging. Maybe Admins should consider this solution. And i think it wouldn't take too much effort from their side.

Bad idea IMHO.

Well actually that is the goal here.
You will think twice about parking the Graviton in front of Manhattan.
250 is off course too much... but some 20-50 per death would be ok.
