Anybody remember Star Raiders for the Atari 2600? Probably already mention in the thread - I haven't read all the posts. Predates(released in 1979) Elite and was the first, as far as I know, of the space combat sims. Not the best game I've played, but definately the most pivotal. Got me into this whole space sim/rpg/strategy thing.
Dungeons & Dragons? The Intellivision version? Yes! Excellent game!
Mass Effect has to be the best contempory game I've played.
Too many others to list. Mostly from my Atari, Commodore and NES days.
Cheers,
Idaho

Been playing games since they bought out, ping pong, space invaders, but theres a few that stand out, these are for me:
Dune
Civ series
Doom
Medieval Total war + Rome
Max Payne
IGI
Medal of Honor
Call of Duty
C&C series
Farcry
civ 2 onwards have been consistantly good
alpha centuari.
freelancer (duh)
rome total war (especialy with a mod called europa barbarrorum, which gives a way more realistic feel to it)
hearts of iron 2
halo series
half life (both of them)
operation flashpoint.
I fell in love with Morrowind when I started playing. Oblivion is good too, but it doesn't seem as full. I never ran out of stuff to do in Morrowind, but in Oblivion I seem to get bored easily. If only the combat/magic system from Oblivion could be transplanted into Morrowind (*eyes glaze over*).
After that, Civ series (especially Alpha Centauri), Final Fantasy VII and X (definitely not X-2 though), Freelancer, and Counterstrike. Those are the ones sticking out right now.
Freelancer
Counter strike: source
Half life (all, especially-Opposing force)
Portal
Team fortress
Age of empires (all, including asian dynasties)
Command and conquer (all, including tiberium wars. im reeeeeeeeeeaaaally looking forward to 3 games by westwood: the expansion to tiberium wars[name is:Kane's Wrath], red alert 3[im signed up for the beta release], and the game called: Tiberium)
Unreal tournament (all, especially the original GOTY edition, and unreal 3, cuz of the graphics and hoverboard)
Hitman (all)
NFS (all, especially underground 1 and 2. those were awesome tbh)
Halo (they are alright, too repititive for me [no offence, dont kill mezors]:P)
and a few others:D
driving game:
-Need For Speed IV: High Stakes
No sh*tty NFS after the fourth generation was even coming to the knee of that awesome game. Graphic crap is just about graphic crap: it makes a nice shinny game with stupid concept and story - just like Halo.
strategy game:
-torn between C&C red alert 1 and C&C red alert 2
While both of them is mainly about building as much units as possible in little amount of time, I loved storyline (even though it was highly unrealistic base: Einstein and a... time machine? sorry westwood, think again), units were fun, gameplay was amusing and victory was always funny
MMORPG:
-Runescape
Despite me despising it, the truth is that I hate every MMORPG, WoW being the lowest in the list. Somehow, Runescape has a magic charming side to me, because it was the first game I've played on a computer, and every few years, I go back on it and make an attempt to recuperate my very old account - which always get refused.
