I've seen a friend play EVE. It looks beautiful but the gameplay seems quite dull. It's point and click, not a free flight experience like Freelancer. And the area is so vast that you struggle to meet up with anyone.
Role-played characters:
daedalus - Liberty Navy
bandersnatch - Ruthless criminal possessed by a (huge) alien
Shredder - Small-time Kusari pirate, looking to join the Blood Dragons
"Bounty Hunters. We don't need that scum." - Admiral Piett
Yeah... The bad thing bout EVE online is the flyin experience. It's only strategical, like any MMORPG: u give the instructions by hotkeys or mouse clicks and the char, is this case ur ship, does the whole show.
But, besides that, the game is really great...
Some Features:
- U can create ur factions with ANY purpose, piracy, patrolling, tradin, spaceships, guns and ammo manufacture. Or all above. U can even claim a sector and create a new state, if u have the guts for it.
- The market has floatin economy. Some goods are produced in stations (U can create stations in the game too, but is a looooooooong long way in skill trainin and money), but the real thing floats around other players actions. If someone buy or sell even a unit, the prices change followin the market's rule of offer and search. (In fact, most goods bein seelin at planets comes from players. U can storage goods in a station, and post a sellin bill from the other corner of the galaxy)
- There are lots and lots of ships to buy, from frigates to the massive Capitol Ships, like Battleships, passing by destr?iers, interceptors and even my favorit: the convert ops ships. There are even ships that u can find only the blueprints, and start manufacturin it. Same thing with guns, upgrades and such.
- When ur ship is destroied, it's the end, u have to buy a new ship (reallism scores A+), and, if don't have insurance, wow, there goes ur credits.
- U can have many ships as u please. U can park 'en at a station and shift to another.
There are more features that I can't remember now. Oh, mam. I wanna play again! :( The bad thing is: I hate "PAY TO PLAY".

As a former EvE player of almost 10 months.. I can tell you this...
"""YOU WON'T GET INTO THIS GAME FOR ATLEAST 4 WEEKS AFTER YOU JOIN"""
This game is complex, and takes alot of time to a) understand b) know c) and be good at
but listen to this next part.....
"If you give it a chance... ride out the first few weeks.. and make a few mates.. maybe even join a player run corp. and you'll find what is arguably the best MMOG on the market currently."
Ismail Melemez (aka Raven) 13/04/06
From graphics to music this game has many rivals beat with just those two... lets add Player orianted content.. a hugh playing area (more than 200 star systems) each one larger than the size of one star system from I war 2 (aka Edge of Chaos) epic battles... everyone plays on ONE SHARED server.. means they often have over 15,000 people playing on the same server.. I believe they broke the 22k players on at the same time record recently.
Altho the missions still need work.. they have changed them alot from when it started.. they make alot more sense.. and now there are "story line missions" for the race and tribe you choose. But ulimatly this game has awesome PvP... a PvP world where not everything is as it seems... i.e Just because your in a smaller ship won't mean you'll lose to a bigger ship... the damage types.. fighting styles.. equipment loadouts.. all plays a BIG part.. hell I've seen 4 intercepters take out a Battleship b4 (ok maybe it was only a tech one battleship but still.. it was a battleship)... the clan vs clan / guild vs guild / corp vs corp is some of the best PvP you'll ever see in any game released currently.
But again.. the real problem is it takes some time to get good enough to really enjoy this game.
Also for the miners and traders out there.... you can play this game truely as one of those professions.. there are missions to interesting ways to mine... basicly, if your into combat or not.. this game will cater for you.
Now your probably thinking.. "well why are you not playing anymore Raven?"
Well... the problem is EvE BEST part and at the same worst part... let me explain
The real reason EvE is the game it is..... it's the realism... the way corps are .. it's like real world (many of the big corps and allainces).. things like spies are a major part of life on eve.. My old corp had a spy in a place with another rival corp for over 6months.. just to get close to them.. and find out all we need to knwo to take them over... yeah sounds awesome... also there were other things.. like having to run very expensive Blue prints to empire space (house space looking at it in freelancer eyes), pirates (rats) or other corps could try to take it.. so we had to make armadas just to deliver some blueprints.
But the problem comes when people start treading it like real life.. and forget that it is a game. :/ and well after mini civil war within the alliance my corp was a part of, I decided, games that knew they were games were more me :) Hell I could of carried on with EvE but I think if I did, I would off started to look at it like work and not play i think.
Anyway... MY OVER ALL POINT.... EvE is a awesome game... it has some very unique features.. and a unique community (don't forget they all one play on the same server), I would recommend that anyone into sci-fi or space games to try this out.. if you have MMOG experiance you'll still find it hard to get into.. don't worry.. give it some time. But remember one thing.. if you can't handle this game taking over your life, make sure you don't drop in too deep :) and you should be ok... why do i say that? well you don't have to be online to train your skills.. skills train over time (you'll see what i mean).
Good old EvE.. but I left it long time ago.. and don't ask... I'm not going back.. too many backstabs at the end there, therefore my character is DEAD!

If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. Asimov The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. Igiss,Oct 7 2005, 02:04 AM Wrote:<snip> but after 3 years it's got only 70 thousand players. Guild Wars had a million after 5 months. See the difference?

The difference here is Eve online is a p2p game (pay 2 play) as opposed to Guild Wars which is free after you buy the game itself.. Thus you can't compare them IMO.. Now if you compare it to Star Wars Galaxies, another p2p MMORPG, I'm sure the amount of players is triple the subscription of SWG.
As for Eve as a game in general, my best friend recently got addicted to the game, but unfortunately had to give it up due to having a girlfriend (Whcih is why I play FL instead of Eve... I refuse to play it just based on, I *KNOW* I will get addicted.
Eve is a very complicated game, so much so to the point where there is in-game stock... Yes, you can participate in the stock market, IN GAME. There are (obviously) cap ships in that game... guess what, your looking at $50,000,000,000 (50 billion) for the best cap ship. Fun stuff :)
I heard the game is alot of fun. I recomend you try it out just on what I've heard by word of mouth (My friend rarely, as in almost never, plays a MMO.. and he loved it.)
