Realism, sure. I think we can forget about that word since in recent years this argument is only used on forum, however in the game it's all the different story (actually in 95% of cases on forums as well). So it's just a "my way to prove my point" card, nothing else. RP has degraded to the level when we can't really go into taking "realism" into account. No one does actually even if claiming so.
The Freeports are far away from houses so in reality they are not a problem for the navy guys for two reasons: Freeports are far away, even if they are full of scum, in RP, they can't effectively breach through the border patrols. Freeports are in the neutral space, neutral space is huge as well (not likely you can fly through the system in 1 min flat really, it's just freelancer's arcade universe is small so it don't take ages to reach NY from Bering). So if we're talking about realism then Navy should give exactly zero You should know better than that. -Champ about those Freeports in the middle of nowhere.
On "fixing problem":
Well, if you don't like the proposal then give anything more effective or just take this one since many feel it's a good change. And also how exactly this will ruin freeport neutrality? Do barrir gate is not enough neutral? Totally ruined station indeed. It seems you see only what you want to see to avoid Zoners loosing control over bases across the Sirius.
It's not bases who ruin neutrality - it's people who don't want to play out their neutrality but pissing people off by assuming that neutrality is somehow gifted to them by gods.
Welp, both Sairs and Casts had problems in the past with malicious raiding parties; I think in-rp they'd try to either demolish or take over the Freeports in the systems 1 stop from their home system if they no longer have any influence on who docks there and if they are being used as staging grounds for 24/7 raids.
I'm solely basing this on long winding QQ threads from the past, so it might be more of a conceived problem than an actual problem, mind you.
I'd still rather just see the ID's split and some retconned lore with some consequences regarding them warships that magically appeared out of thin air.

Maybe each freeport has a unique ID and IFF?
E.g FP1 Zoner ID, FP2 Zoner ID etc.
Man, just drop the mooring points from Freeports. Profit.
Also I see no problems with those 24\7 raids at all. It's a game - not a job. So you can just go and fly somewhere else if you don't feel like taking part or jump in if yyou do. We, players, are not bound to sit and watch over the system to make sure no one sits in it from red list.

Someone has not kept up on Zoner history. It is okay though, I did not expect enlightenment.

Can we do this with your Q_Q about Zoners?
I do not remember anyone saying anything about an organised Zoner military force, with the exception of Tel-Aviv who is hardly the best source on Zoners. Past that, I expect AD would do just about anything to cramp on Jinx's models or pet faction choice as much as he can.

So if Rheinturtles were basing themselves from Bering, the LN wouldn't make any move to stop that?

As I recall in the past, the [LN] and =LSF= were doing just that to Rheinland.
Currently, I believe a treaty disallows people from staging from the base or bringing the war to it. Best to ask viragons though, since he is the FP Administrator there. Make it Freelancer IFF with no leadership? Will be a good hoot.

Makes little difference, only who is angry at the freeport.
A treaty can only be enforced if someone is reporting on it. People can easily use the station if they're careful.
