Whenever i get on freelancer, the mouse pointer starts off as a big box in the top left of the screen, when i move it it becomes the proper cursor, then i click on something, and it disappears, the farthest ive gotten, is when in game it will sporradically come into and out of existence with no clear pattern, and no my HUD is not turned off, the rest of the HUD still works (oddly enough, so do the arrows that follow the mouse pointer in mouse flight mode)
It is also likely worth noting that i have tried completely wiping my computer of all freelancer and discovery data and attempting a fresh install, still nada
In addition, many icon elements, including menu sliders and inventory icons flicker with displaced colored shapes, and across the middle of the sliders a thin cross line appears, same thing with health bars, except that in addition to the thin diagonal line, they also are completely black, lacking any ability to show the health or shield status of a target
after more playing to determine the extent of the problem, i have also discovered that when used, tractor beams create odd screen covering triangular shapes within the 3d plane, or perhaps they are superimposed on the screen, either way, they are really messed up
If you still have similar problems try to reinstall your game.

Sounds to me like your freelancer install has gotten corrupted - bad textures on the cursor. I'd suggest reinstalling the game.
