Also as a dev stated (longa go) it is not posible withought crashing the Freelancer engine,but it is posible to make the beam like in the video while the damage will be raw,like 1 constand damage and not every second.Even more powerfull games like the X Series have not managed to replicate a real deal beam weapon,exept the Khaak Kyon emmiters that cause HUDGE ammounts of lag while sustained (in this last weapon even the NPC's avoid continous fire and if you "the player" use the click and forget method you will quickly noticed you FPS goiing down)
There is no sense arguing over how beam effects will be made or how they would be implemented, because they are already in the next version of the mod.
But I see what you are looking for, Omicron, something like the big turreted ion cannons from Homeworld 2.
Sure, that would be cool to see, it would need really really slow tracking and maybe a bit of spread to prevent snubs from being sniped out with it.
Could be awesome to see the LSC, and other cruisers, fwd gun replaced with a ship specifik beam weapon. Make them drain the same amount as before. Any ship with a fwd gun really. Or just give them the option to change accordingly.
Then again, new shield visuals would be great aswell. Getting tired of seeing octagons(or whatevs) All the time.
The Nightstalkers Universe mod had those Phasers from star trek,
and the refire rate I think was something like 33:33 and it lagged the server up to crash several times, NS had to slow them down.
Is there seriously no mechanic for any form of hit-scan in the game? What a shame.
It'd be great and simple if all the weapons that say they're "laser based" on their info-card would just use a hit-scan projectile with identical DPS and perhaps slightly increased power consumption...
