I was getting almost 700 ping, normally about 230. Ouch. It's better now, whatever happened. So annoying to have beaten a bunch of Outcasts and then blow up 5 min later.

I've been having intermittent lagspike problems for a week or so. When the problem occurs I get red lag, and am able to receive messages from other players (though not respond to them e.g. send a message, accept a group invite) before getting disconnected 20 seconds later. This will then resume as soon as I reconnect to the server. The problem is not any of the following:
Wireless issues - my computer is hard wired to the router
Port forwarding/NAT: I've set enough port forwarding to my computer to run a Freelancer /server/, let alone a client:P
Computer access - Freelancer is set to run under administrator rights (using Vista if that's helpful)
There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it either in terms of days - however it _only_ seems to happen when th e server has more than about 110 people playing
EDIT: Should mention that throughout, even when having the lag-boot problems, my ping shows as around 75
No longer active online due to a dwindling amount of non-PvP (trading, pirating, mining, etc.) fun in the new version.
Bump: should mention that it appears to be character-based (which would seem to rule out any problem with my connection etc.). For example, when I moved my bomber character to Connecticut about ten minutes ago I was promptly lagspiked off the server. If I attempt to re-log into that character, I lagspike off again. However I can play quite normally in the same system with my fighter character.

Odd lag situation. I'm guessin' someone's tryin' to DDoS the server atm. It ain't down, but the lag's been insane for the past 8-10 minutes, constant red lag for three, before I logged out(since it didn't boot me) with roughly 38 connected on average, as seen on the server selection screen. Ping remains 145-170 for me, but can't connect for the life of me...
..Oops, there it goes, server down. :(
The problem with troubleshooting is that real trouble shoots back.
This lag is most likely caused by the tons of stupid people sitting in NY. FLserver can't handle 40 people in one system, as it has to syncronise all 40 very well. And its not a very efficient program at doing so.
Shift your backsides out of NY please!
Even though there is a significant time difference between his post and mine, I believe it still applies.
I haven't had much problem with lag.. Until today when I signed on. I also noticed that the normal 128 player limit was increased to 160. Different from most times I have been on Discovery in the past week. Only today I have had the problem, and the problem is extreme! I come on and everything is fine for like a few seconds and then everything gets red lag and sometimes it kicks me right off the server I'm lagging so bad. Seeing as how I've never seen 160 for a player limit, anywhere, much less here, I think it has to do with that because this has -only- happened today.
Ever since i started on this server my ping has consistantly been hanging around 350, also i see the yellow red lag more often than i dont. server seems to randomly disconnect me in the middle of an important mission and never when im just cruising around.
I have the best internet connection available to someone in my area, my firewall and ports are all set as they should be I just do not know what else to do...
