Remove cruise engine charge time

People will argue the charge times are there to prevent escape of traders and etc, giving time for a hit by a CD to be landed. Basically under this system as long as the aggressor is paying attention they can keep the other ship in the interaction. There are always those with skill and luck to escape using CM, especially if just at the right distance from the attacker.

Consider though that all ships, both sides, of the interaction would still be on an even playing field with cruise charge time removed. Both attacker and attacked could go to cruise quite quickly. It still works that if you're paying attention, you can still keep up with other ships.

CD would not be useless, you can still engine kill and CD at high speed. CD would still stun a cruise engine for the same amount of time. That time could even be increased, since it would then act as deterrent from trying to escape quickly, since if it failed you would be prevented from trying to re-engage for (ex) 30s-1 min (depending on ship size perhaps). That would be what keeps the ship in the interaction.

Basically I think it would be cool and honestly look epic for ships to be able to accelerate to cruise at a moment's notice, reminiscent of warp/lightspeed seen in much science fiction. I see the cruise time as a buffer to let newer players get used the system of stopping a ship. It might require a bit more whit to drop a ship to normal speed but the odds would still be even. Nothing would need to be changed regarding weapons power and recharge rates, so the balance of losing your weapons to cruise would still apply. I just think it would be a little more action packed to remove the buffer time that is not really necessary.

So would this make it too hard on people's heads? I think it would be cool, just might take a few days to get used to, but I'd welcome something like this in the future.

It would be interesting...though I agree with Sindroms on that :/
And if you engine kill to fire a CD and they use CMs, you can cruise back right away and they didn't really get away much, so that would be harder to run from people...
Maybe just on a few ships, or a ship type?
Don't get me wrong here, I think this would be AWESOME, just it would make a few things really hard/close to impossible ._.

On a more serious note, it would be pretty cool for an interceptor ship such as the Arrow to have a cruise charge of a few seconds.

So I'd be all for changing the stun time to a longer period to still avoid endless cruise/drop/cruise/drop cycles. That way once you land the hit you get a certain amount time to drop a demand. 30-45s would be sufficient, so yeah you'd have to watch them close, if they 'jump' away you could still pursue, cd them again, if you're fast enough! Basically when awaiting the response, you might wanna keep your finger on the engine not the cd, and be more conerned with chasing them first, not cd'ing them when you hear the sound of their engine. Even if they had a 1 second delay, a reinforced CD has enough range and speed to catch them from impulse up to 3.5 k. They may make a fast getaway, or may screw themselves due to a longer delay.

I also wanted to add (but don't feel like pumping out the threads) that these new engines could be a little more interchangeable among ship types, and allow for some kind of actual speed change (upgrade) to current speeds. Certain engines could add a 5%, 10%, 15% increase to regular 350 cruise speed. This would allow a player to finally get an engine that might let it gain on a fleeing ship, or guarantee escape (rather than how fast you can CM spam). This is a whole other topic but if that were possible it would remove deadlocks where two ships get stuck at the same distance for hundreds of k during a pursuit, that winds up a trip to the edge of the system. Even just chasing a guy from jumphole to jumphole, you pretty much can't catch up to them once they got outside your CD range, it'd be nice to be able to 'push' your engines to the max to try to close the gap.
