Gaian's don't need a base in Cambridge to increase activity. They already have bases in Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, and Forie, and can just as easily fly around to Cambridge if they needed/wanted to.

People just need to start flying Gaian ships or test out a Gaian-RP to get a taste for it...and see if that makes them WANT to play a Gaian more.

Try out NGF. We have fun there, and without a Cambridge base. You just gotta have the desire.

Omega 9 rp is failing horribly due to the main factions that should be involved not even caring. I do not feel as if my efforts to create anything interesting were taken up by anybody but Order, BHG Core and Wilde. The main players in such a "struggle for the new system" rp are still missing.

I applaud the efforts as well, Jack. But I think part of the problem there (as already noted by yourself), is that aside from generic RP and pews, there's no incentive to go to O-9 for miners or traders. So the only ones you're gonna get are pew-oriented factions (Order, BHG, Wilde...ta daa!)

I used the opportunity but I see no further potential in Omega 9 in its current state.

People do not seem to understand that the rp is part of developing the system and shaping it, then suggesting a draft to the Devs and if you can back it up with rp, you might get it. That's what I will do. And when it comes to base suggestions, I already know which factions I can imagine having a presence there after what has happened up to now.

It's not too hard to invest a little, even if there is nothing here at the moment.
Seems many think you get your storyline advances by Skype-channel "rp" only.

Yeah, well - It's kind of hard to keep a "wild west" feel with RM muscling in with a BS in Omega7, an equivalent-of-4-battleships base in Omega3 ( on a jumpgate chokepoint, nonetheless ), and other active initiatives to "tame the wild west" systems. I'm not really sure what did people expect to happen when these decisions were made and put into action. I guess some thought that the unlawfuls in the area would enjoy being shot at by indestructible objects all the time. Well.. I guess that is not the case. We (at least when I am online) go and find our fun elsewhere now.

Besides, there is little to none trading activity in the omegas for unlawfuls to make use of. If I wanted to shoot npcs all day, I would play SP.

From a Corsair-player point of view, I am bored in the Omegas.

Route to Sigmas was extended by adding a buffer system. It takes approximately 10 minutes through empty space to reach Sigma19 from Gamma. Don't even get me started on flying there from Omega5. Once you reach Sigma19, you get to sit on the lane and get bored to tears. But hey - at least you don't have to fight windmills in form of a stationary BS there.

Bretonia, well - same story pretty much. with the jump holes moved and some removed completely, the time to get to Bretonia from Omega5/11 is extended signifficantly. Well, unless of course you want to use lanes... Oh wait. Instarape there. Nevermind. So you get to Bretonia, 1 pvp opportunity in the system, trader once in 40 minutes or so. Dublin is a completely different story. I get the feeling that when anything other than the "standard occupants" enter the system, everyone just docks for 30 minutes and get back later. Nothing new here.

Kusari - I don't even know. I try to contact anyone relevant in the Corsair community via standard rp channels, and I get replies from one guy, That being CsF. Thanks for trying, man, but I don't think you would be able to provide relevant information on current Corsair-Kusari diplomacy.

Now that piracy is out of the way:

Hessians - I am yet to actually see a Hessian ship in space. I've been back for like a month or so. 3 weeks maybe. Nothing. Guess everyone is in Dresden or New Berlin, not being shot at by solars.

BHG/Outcasts - this Omicron Lambda space, supposedly designed for BHG-Sair brawls is simply empty 24/7. Really guys? You had to add a buffer system between Gamma and a different buffer system? I know Theta was there, but it feels like a much longer trip. Possibly due to the silence. I'll give you one thing, though - at least I don't see Hispanian factions raiding their respective capital systems. Props there.

Reavers - nothing but kudos to these guys. 2/5 player-induced deaths I had on the server so far have been their wallet interests.

So what else is there? BAF having fun with GRN, RM having fun ( maybe, didn't see any yet ) with Hessians, I guess?

All-in-all. There's not much for me as a Corsair ( or an unlawful in Omegas, generally ) to do. So I just migrate to a different section of the ZoI.

In the end I'd really like to blame server population, but I remember times when it was similar to now and things were different. Connecticut is likely one of the factors as well. I mean it's kind of sad when you get to see more text ( as in, NOT-diemessages ) in Conn than elsewhere. Not saying it should be removed, but some people should reconsider their time on the server if they just mess in Conn all the time. I like to pvp. Come have fun with me 8|

If some state on Earth has an interest in Mars surely it's right for them to patrol there (just they can't because it's freaking far from the Earth and too expensive to maintain an actual expedition for 99% of countries). Hello, use imagination please. Freelancer space was stretched down to make travels possible in short periods of time. Real space is a tad more bigger and we assume (by RP, omg) that it's huge.

So if the house have an "interest" in some system doesn't mean it can afford it.

If you can fly your LNS noobcaps into badlands right to the Buffalo doesn't mean you can reach it in RP or even get anywhere close to it.

Ye, pretty much that.

All those "new vundersystems" are total shait and have no purpose except the constant annoyance. I tried to go to Sigmas once, from omega 5, and guess what? I was almost ready to nuke myself to return to the Cadiz being just half way to Sigmas. This trip is just completely broken and useless. I don't think I even want to try going there.

New Berlin was removed from ZoI. Kusari is out of ZoI as well. Awesome. We're pretty much not allowed to go and look for activity if there is any. Sit in omegas they say. But it's just a dead, rotting space. As well as half of Bretonia. Bretonia players are saying they want to see Corsairs back but they are not providing a single reason for Corsairs to log in. It's not full time job and it's easier for players, as I said, to just refrain from playing the game or to try some other faction, or something.

Piracy itself is dead. When I began playing it was super awesome fun for me to feel myself like I'm in some middle age trading galleon with the seas being full of dangers and pirates. Pirates were everywhere, on every corner. I remember California-New York gates being a constant Pirate activity on them. I was flying my freelancer firefly first, then smuggler Ptrance through the countless encounters with all kinds of bad guys. And it was cool, yes, I'm missing those times a lot because when I'm going out with trade ship now I'm able to play while watching some movie in alt tab. And guess what? I simply have almost 0% chance for being caught by pirates because there are no pirates.

Piracy don't work as a source of fun anymore. Reasons for it are complex as I see it. First of all - trade ships are now cruiser strong and a lone fat trader can just get to nearest docking point if you're on something smaller then very heavy bomber. And while you have to wait for an opportunity to see a trader at all with your heavy bomber there is a chance of some navy or other kind of hostiles coming and raping your heavy bomber like it's child's play with anything from LF to VHF.

Piracy spots are also almost gone. For entire House there are now literally few normal spots for piracy and even them are getting removed by barricading affords of factions that, in fact, must fly their combat ships to clear the pirates away instead of building another POB or crying a river to devs so they mindlessly spam stationary caps on every corner.

As I said - the game is now getting to the point it must be renamed into "Happy Farmer 24\7".

My suggestions to fix the situations are simple and I voiced them out for quiet a few times.

Server needs a solid fix. I'd start with total player base wipe combined with useless systems and bases cleanup. Also the gameplay aspect needs some fixing as well. It's really necessary to go through all remaining systems in order to see how it's working. Devs need to refrain from changing vanilla system layouts because it's what people are used to mostly. If you have some idea about making a new mineable field or so - don't add totally new and useless systems just for it. Also we don't need all trade routes to be equal, really, this spreads the already tiny playerbase even more to the point of 0-1 player per route. Pirates won't buy this kind of gameplay - they already ain't. And of cause trading ships needs a serious downgrade combined with POBs being SRP only with very strict rules of where they can be placed. Weapon platforms need to be SRPed separately from the POB itself because it's real fail - honestly I'd just delete the automated defenses - if faction is building a POB they must, at least, defend it by themselves or to hire other factions to do so.

Here I'm going to be told: bla bla bla go make own server and do whatever ya want. Okay, I'm wasting my time on attempts to think about problems with server. I like the game and I feel it's my duty to give, at least, a suggestion from my POV. I was applying for giving my hand to the dev team, along with not a few people - I don't think any of us actually got a piece of work, at least I didn't. First devs says they won't reject the help but when people comes and lend the said hand to them they are being ignored royally. Then people try to suggest something at least, voice their POV on how this and that might be fixed - they are being told to go shove their opinion up their behinds pretty much. No wonders we're loosing people because we're not a part of the project any more, we're not a team. All of us are not a united team - devs, players, admins. This is not EVE, not a commercial project and it can't work on the basis of total selfishness. This is just a way to nowhere.

Maybe not a terrorist movement, but zoners telling Bretonia to get *insert expletive*. and IMG could support that. people want zoners to stand up for themselves more? heres a perfect opportunity. gather support, by which i mean passive support, and force Bretonia to reconsider its actions and plans.

The houses arent unassailable juggernaughts. You just have to think, and play to the houses weaknesses.

There are opportunities for the unlawfuls and quasi-lawfuls to jolt things back to a better balance. All it takes is one spark.

The process has been there for years and has (as Pavel said) already started in the original game. There is no way of reverting the Houses going into O3/O7 and taking them over more and more.

Furthermore, most of the decisions about base location, docking rings, etc. are made totally without asking those independent factions involved in it. e.g. I realized that a Rheinland BS would be sitting next to Freistadt when I undocked. No discussion before, no (at least visible) roleplay, nothing. You cannot "fight" that irply.

Sprague colonization at least was perty well covered by forum rp, the base construction effort and also fighting interaction on server before. So... I do not think you can change anything there any more. The development at this stage makes sense and cannot be reverted any more in O3 (why would they stop?) and will not be reverted any more in O7 (why would the BS fly away, even though it could, ofc?).

It depends really on the PoV, in fact the Corsairs won that fight by destroying the first base.
Sadly there is no proper event mechanism that allows stuff to be added to the mod according to the in-game actions. This fact makes the players to count on tight connections to the people in power -devs/admins instead of doing their RP in-game. The second makes the server to look ridiculously stupid because the in-game actions doesn't count or count in the development depending how good are you in licking the devs asses.
If we had some clearly regulated system for in-game consequences after the in-game actions the server would be a lot better place.
Not only Omegas but also all other indipendent/borderwords systems are heavyly powergamed by the house factions.

Letting in-game actions determine storyline development is a slippery slope, though.

If in-game actions start determining storyline....then the pew mongers would just go bat-crap crazy and soon the Reavers would single handedly destroy the BAF while the LN gankfleet flew all the way to New Paris and killed King Charles.

I think there should be maybe some tempered method of merging forum RP with in-game RP as a guide for plot development, but not a major.determining factor.
