LNS Dreads calling pirates in fighters cowards always annoyed me bacause that comes from ooRP side of not getting easy blue message.
Well, I made it clear that your point concerns me, at least.
I doubt this is how everyone feels about pvp. Again, I am comfortable saying such things, because I know that if I try to bullshit my way out of it, I am sure someone who plays with me regularly will quickly jump in to prove me wrong. So why lie?
I suppose the problem is that I take PVP on a very personal level. And I hate losing.

I miss the days of old [HF] when we would answer that with an Arbiter or 7.

Nah.
Do you honestly think anyone is stupid enough to really think that someone is a coward because they wont charge their battlesihp with a fighter?
No.
LNS do that intentionally to piss the pirate off. It is like. If you say that, the first thing that goes through the other's mind is "But that is not fair! I can't even do anything about you! How can you even say that!" and the person flying the pirate gets upset.
It is your basic psychological warfare. And it is directed OORPly, which makes it even more effective.

To be honest being a bounty hunter relies completely on the other side. If ANYONE chooses not to fight and just flees with their armor upgrade 8 and a full pack of nanobots they can easily dodge the average distance to a friendly base just on thrusters. Of course that is if the fight is 1 on 1. Of course the ones who fight for a bit and then decide to run when low on nanobots don't always make it, but if you have the nanobots you can decently run a distance of 20-30K or even more, which for some systems is more than enough. Talking fighters only here, though, as I've barely flew anything bigger nor do I want to.
I think there are times when it's a legit move and times when it's pure stupidity.
Scenario One: Large groupfight. Could go either way. Someone is out of ammo and needs a restock. Quietly slipping away to restock and repair (well out of range of the fight of course) and then returning is fair enough.
Scenario Two: Lone lawful and lone unlawful cross paths. One wants to fight, one does not and turns and heads for a base. Fair enough.
Scenario Three: Lone lawful and lone unlawful cross paths. Both wish to fight. One eventually realises they are outmatched and when relatively close to death, turns around and has to thrust madly for 15 minutes. Not ok, especially in the cases one side leads the other to their "secret" base in that foreboding nebula, which inRP betrays the HQ of the whole operation. Not ok.

And that makes me feel good.
I guess spazzy made my point.
I can't quite grasp this concept that people seem to derive a lot of pleasure in 'upsetting' others.
In most case the people on the otherside of the screen will forever remain, effectively, faceless (except for those that post pictures of themselves). I see a lot of so called hatred towards others within the Forums. The reality is, if you ever meet the others in RL, you could possibly become friends.
I find it sad that within this 'Faceless Society' of the internet people can't treat each other with respect. I, in RL, don't like some people, professionally and socially, but i treat them with respect. I don't 'go out of my way' to upset them and always talk to them civilly.
So, the question is, why can't we do it here?
'I would like to be half as clever as some people like to believe they are' Life is full of disappointments, it is how we handle them that helps to define us, as a person
EDIT: In other words, Disco is pretty much the same as Xbox Live. Things don't change and it is the human itself to blame.

Before I give my bit to the discussion let me ask you a question. Ever played a game and been on a roll only to have it stunted by something? Take age of empires for example, a game I'm sure the majority of you have played. Say you start the map and within 5 minutes the computer raids you to hell leaving you in a pretty pitiful state. Don't tell me you don't reload the same map and move to accommodate the very same attack so you can win and keep winning outright.
I bring this up because experienced gamers in their respective games are perfectionists. It's the same reason the first time you play a game is the best because the gamer is still exposed to unfamiliar circumstances and knows next to nothing about how the game 'works'. It's all about the experience. Play the same game a second time and words like 'unfair' and 'unbalanced' start to be thrown around and the gamer won't try to outsmart the opponent but instead the game.
The only difference here is that this same method doesn't work, because in PvP we're trying to outsmart each other in a game setting. So faced with this dilemma we - and I say we because we ALL do it - will try to get the best out of any situation by attempting to outsmart said scenario using our knowledge of the game and how it works.
What do we get from this? We all have our reasons. But I'm guessing a major one which I know personally drives my survival instinct is to know that the opponent hasn't made a tally mark out of me. Losing a fight is being reduced to that and many people understandably after all the work they have put into their characters aren't openly willing to roll with that.

Scenerio 1 isn't what I talked about. I talked about docking mid-fight.
