Cloaks on Freighters are impractical due to their varid and somewhat limited cargo space.

The MK II Cloak consumes double the fuel of the MK I, so your cloak is limited to half of the cargo space you get after you mount the cloak and the guns.

Bonjour Monsieur,
a freighter Need a Cloaking Device MkII (aka medium or cruiser cloak), and the cloak takes 200 of your cargo space, so the space for armor and fuel (MOX, H-Fuel, Promethene, Deuterium, He-3) is restricted.
A Transport(bigger than 900 cargo) Need the Cloaking Device MkII Advanced (aka BS or large cloak).
You can use any (above mentioned) fuel for cloaking
I've used a medium cloak on a freighter, its actually a decent set up. I recommend a Dromedary, they have 650 cargo spaces, you need 200 for the cloak, could still throw on a UAU8 -20 more and still have around 430 units for MOX, that's about 6-7 mins. With a freighter's speed, you get excellent 'mileage'. Even with H-fuel you get enough time to evade, or make it to a base that has H-fuel, which is quite common.
For it to be practical, you pretty much have to scratch using capital or heavy armor upgrades, but if you use it right, it won't make any difference.
