I think that is a cheap solution. It is like fixing something with ducttape, it will get broken again, you just prolonged its usefullnes.
Some people do not like events. I am one of those people. I like it much more when I actualy meet someone by random chance and I have a random RP with him...
Do not start to shout at me because I do not like events. They are a great way to boost activity... but only for 2 or 3 hours top. I do not feel that that is the way to fix disco for good. It will not make the game more interesting for players, only for organised factions that can make the events or for experienced idividuals that check the forums and are able to make an event where people will actualy log.
Disco has a very significant lack of PvE. And this component should not be ignored.
I agree, events are cool, and sometimes, they could create gigatones of fun, but it's not a panacea. Again, main problem for Discovery is not a lack of new players, it's way to hold players. Honestly, a month ago, when I played Disco FL, I failed to see any alternative to trade/pvp actions in game. Even trading started to become boring, after 600 mils.
So, what Im telling, that with solid PvE component, players will have something attractive, between events and population pike time. I failed to understand, why devs have screwed cap mission system, which, IMO, was one of Discovery's strongest point. And again, it's only one spot.
Wow there's simply too many different suggestions in this thread for anything to be really be done.
Maybe it'd be best to create a poll with some of the more popular options given here in this thread and see if there is one or two changes that a majority of the community would like to make.
Because at the moment it seems rather than getting behind a single idea everyone else has either their "better" variation of that idea or something else in mind entirely. How do people expect things to change or conversation to move forwards from a thread like this when it is literally every other post or so with some different idea?

Because the devs can read this and pick the option that seems the best for them.

This is true and I have never thought about it. PvE is the activity that is the most common in every MMO, be it WoW, Lineage or any else. Because you do not need high player activity for PvE, you can have fun by yourself or with a friend or two. Adding good PvE option would greatly benefit Disco. But then again, I do not see a way of adding real PvE into the game... I can only think of missions that could be made better and profitable, but not the real fun PvE, that is running dungeons and doing raids. Doing missions is just... farming. In a different coat.

Why would the Devs pick one random idea option/variation when it's just one person that is backing that idea? It would by far be better to make a poll and see which ideas the majority of the community like, without the fifty billion variations of that idea.
That way it would be easy for the Devs to see what the community as a whole would like to happen.

The good ideas are left behind, because mistakes were done on this server long before the current dev team *cough* capital ship availability *cough* Gallia *cough* and no one can undo these things. But making a poll about different problems sounds good, as long as it is polled by a dev a not some simple mortal member of the community.

Because it is the dev that makes the game. And it is only his choice to listen to this sheetstorm of ideas. Yes, we can make a poll that would solve this... but would it solve it really? And who will pick the ideas that will get in the pole? Or will we get all of them in there?
It is a nice idea and I say that it could work of a dev makes the poll and takes the ideas HE likes. Since HE will be making them. Not us. We will only later QQ on the forum how it is even worse now. And someone will... They do every time.

What would have to be done is the most popular ideas be put into the poll (not the weird variations which only one or two people like). The Devs would then have to say which ones are possible/impossible. From this point you would put the remaining two or three (maybe even one if we are lucky) options into a poll along with the option of having things remain as they are.
From this point it's easy for everyone to see the most popular ideas that the community have chosen, and it can therefore be decided which ideas will actually be put into action.
As for people QQ'ing on the forums, let them. Because at this point it is the majority of the community which should have a positive result and only the minority which will be moaning at things. Unfortunately there will always be someone moaning no matter what decision is taken and that will likely never change.
Missions are main PvE benefit in Discovery, however, they could be turned to be interesting, not just random NPC slaying.
For example, well know mission: "kill base". Simple base could be replaced by, let's say battleship, with very tight hull.
And defenders gona be gunboats and destroyers. Such missions could be placed in warfire region. For example Leeds system. Mission for GRN- destroy Liberty Navy Carrier acting as mobile base and vice vera. Such mission could be ok for solo.
More complicated, but still same mission: "kill base". We putting base, very heavely armored, secured by 2 battleship which are like weapon platforms, and pretty armored too. Same defence, with few waves of GBs and Cruisers. Such mission should be for 2-3 players.
Yeah, it's pretty same mission, as I said already, but now it has different cover, and given under new sounce.
Another small idea, still not quite sure, if it's possible to create it:
This goes for pirating. This mission should be used in space without trade lanes. At pirate base, you contact informator, who gives you coordinates to a transport convoy intenception point. When player approachs this point, NPC convoy should spamn. NPC should move to Jumphole. When it reachs jumphole it jumps, and gets removed. When player follow the jump, he will found no convoy, and mission will be failed. Escort ships and transport's armor should be determinet by difficulcity level.
