Junkers control the black market, in every house (almost, except where kept out by other questionably legal entities) under the cover of a garbage cleanup and construction business.

Biggest ZOI, quietest presence.
Work with the street thugs (pirates) to operate between upright society and those with blood on their hands - but never quite accused of being either.
It seems pretty straightforward to me why people would love to play them.
Secretly way more cool and ballsy than any Zoner.
Pretty much any day.
+1
( *cough* get legal and wash money ... anybody need a new liver ? )
Also : fly where you want to. Ok, somebody doesn´t like you and will probably shoot at you ?
Oh my, normal buisness. Guess im sooooo much better off than any trader.
Smuggling fun ? Do it. Pirating fun ? Do it.
Malus ? Get called the new Zoner round the block. Oh my...
Because there are so many ways to play. After all you want to pirate - make a pirate character, want to trade on the same character - doesn't work. Become a Junker it works

You know what? I am going to make a pirate that will pirate the Junkers. Of course, I won't use your bases, except for target practice.
Yes, you should buy a Xeno Waran and pirate the Junkers!
Great fun and succes guaranteed, cause its a real suprise for them :-)

I played as a Junker before the scrap rush and didn't even cash in on it much, I mostly escorted random Junkers to and from the scrap fields, which to me is as much fun as making money from trading. I simply cashed in on the activity and it did generate a lot of fun for everyone involved. For all those reasons Lyth laid out quite well, the Junkers ID gives you great freedom. In my case, being a Junker is as descibed, a 'front' to piracy and espionage, while working with Junkers on smuggling etc. Its let me shape my char based on my in game actions more than just my ID, and I find a lot of Junkers are like that for sure, since you find wide variety of personality types within the one broad faction.
Its true they seem to have the highest traffic, ironically I found myself one, instead of pirating them. If I did pirate Junkers, I'd rarely have to go long without a target. That being said, I'll be one of the ones you may wind up dealing with if you do pirate them. Sauce for the goods! You people are only now seeming to understand the amount of traffic you've missed over the last several weeks. Many may complain how much money the Junkers made from that buff, but the activity was there because of it, just not many actually took advantage of it for piracy. The Taus you might find some pirates who'll take on Junkers, but I've never seen a 'pirate' of any kind in the Texas scrap fields, other than myself, and I'm on their side!
