Don't forget about Behemoth, BWT, GAT, and a few other transports which will kill any other transport in combat.
Gee, it almost sounds like my idea would make those (and other) transports a practical choice, rather than "those dinky things you use until you can afford a REAL transport".

Anything but this. Why should we cater to the silent powertrader who doesn't know how to do anything besides press "go to" and "dock" in the biggest, slowest, most stripped-down moneymaker he can find?
You could balance this out in any number of ways. You could decrease the cargo capacity of the ptrain. You could increase the capacity of house transports. There are options here, people. Instead of squabbling over these little details, let's talk more about the overall concept I brought up. Only if we decide that the concept of cargo-only piracy is desirable, should we be worrying about details like this ship being op, this trader losing all his profit on a sale because of relative cargo sizes, etc.
Heh imagine someone getting pirated for cargo twice on their route with expensive ore purchased from a pob
I mean sure I'm all for it as I don't trade personally, but I think people would really, really, really regret it. The amount of cargo pirates will go up drastically.

Cargo piracy is incredibly fun and incredibly profitable compared to 2mordai piracy that tends to struggle to make enough money to pay for ammo. My cargo pirating Behemoth went from a UAU8 to a CAU6 within a few hours of piracy with no external cash injections.
It's harsh on the trader, sure, but maybe that will finally motivate them to hire a scout/escort, a role that I personally enjoy playing but which is generally just a waste of money for any trader.
In reality, however, the traders would probably be more motivated to moan about "unfair piracy" on the forums and elsewhere, than to solve their problems themselves.

Find me an easy way to find an escort ?
Perhaps a merc chat over skype ?
I nearly always hire an escort if I get the chance , but Im tired of scanning the Chat window for pirates and escorts...
I fly and see who I meet.
It's easy to find an escort, if you are in a trader faction with around 10 people or more. There someone will have time. Or they just fly as 2 Bisons together, lol.
