Hi everyone, new to Discovery, but not freelancer, and I've got a slight problem.
So I've followed the installation steps written in the forum (simple enough), fresh install of vanilla FL separate from the Disco folder, .Net framework already part of Windows 10 so that's pretty much it.
The problem is that when DSLauncher starts loading, it only gets to the second step in the loading screen, where it tries to connect to some 'Kitty server' then crashes, or just stops altogether, no error codes or any other message.
Hope you can help, would be nice to try out Discovery FL. Thanks.

We've just had the host server die which contained the forum, game server and launcher files. The forum has literally just been restored but the other two are work in progress. Everything should be working normally again within a few days.

Ah right. I knew there was a problem with the server host, just didn't know it also prevented the DSLauncher from launching.
You can play Discovery, just not on the GC server and without the launcher. Just launch Discovery from the Disco Install folder using the 'Freelancer.exe' supposing you wanted to play on a server hosted by someone you know using a LAN client software of some description. You wont have your accounts obviously cause the main server is down but it's fine for messing about on Single Player on Discovery to pass the time.

Are you sure you're launching from the EXE in the Discovery folder and not the untouched vanilla Freelancer one? Discovery has a noCD patch built in, which is why the mod legally requires a legitimate game copy to install from. Not having the disk shouldn't be a problem for playing Discovery's OpenSP.
If you want to play the vanilla campaign, you can also just copy the Discovery EXE file into the Vanilla directory.
I've heard that there aren't any other good Disco servers worth the time, so I'm not really bothered about that. I have tried playing vanilla SP, but can't get widescreen to work properly, even with the added -dx option. Hence I wanted to use the launcher.
I've heard Disco has been going on for years now, so my guess is that the devs and admins are doing something right
