It appears you do not understand the nature of this server. It is a roleplay server, has been a roleplay server, and always will be a roleplay server. It is not a server designed for player vs player combat (though this is enabled, it is done as part of roleplay) but for the simulation or cinematic enactment of situations. It's not about having the biggest gun (there is always the VOID Server and many others if you would prefer that) but about having the best story. I myself am moderate in a fight, largely due to lag.
Yet, I write one of the largest stories ever written on our server. The only capital ship I fly is a Rheinland prison ship. Capital ships can be used well to supplement or spearhead roleplay, but fundamentally, they need to be balanced with fighters and backed by roleplay stories. Rheinland Battleships are used only by the Rheinland Military, what they do have in the fields would have been plundered by Wilde or squabbling groups of Junkers, and they are currently locked up in massive facilities guarded by hundreds of men and defense systems and accessible only to Kriegsmarine Admirals or Grosseadmirals.
Since it seems this thread is in an area where RP is set aside...I see that many don't like the RP of we who call ouselves A51. I'm not surprised. However, you won't see me criticizing your RP no matter how I feel about it. I will play along and make the best of it and probably enjoy it. I am not here to prattle about it. Who is to say what is possible and what is impossible in this game. To me thats what makes it fun.
I feel it is best played out in game not here where words mean so much.
Now having said my bit, I leave you with a parting thought (plagerized from the original Kung Fu pilot movie). "When ones words are no better than silence, one should remain silent".
What Patrick is saying, friends, is that you have to play by the house rules. Trying to change them will only incite Out of Roleplay conflicts with the vast majority of the more native community. A Rheinland Battleship is all fine and nice, but you have to make sure it's legitimately possible. We've had dozens of people lately try the 'Sigma-13 Wreck Field Weaponization" approach, and it simply isn't feasible. The outline of a backstory is there, but the actual backstory is two paragraphs long, and it has holes that need spackling, sanding and painting. The ship list is messy, too, and no matter what you say you have too many capital ships. Battlecruisers all over the place. The BHG don't even have a shipyard. Where are they getting all of these things?
Another, more population-related problem: We have at least one BHG faction already approved, with another theoretically on the way, and dozens of indie BHG all over the place, causing all kinds of trouble. There is no good way to do this. If you can unify all the indies and the current factions under one banner and reign them in, then by all means do so, but as it remains there isn't room for more BHG here.
Oh, and flaming Praetyre never works. He doesn't lose arguments. Ever. He speaks when he has something to contribute, and that contribution should be listened to with the same level of attention as one would listen to whatever deity one worships, or, worse, Hoodlum on a bad day, writing your sanction.

Logic does not exist within Discovery.
"you have to play by the house rules. Trying to change them will only incite Out of Roleplay conflicts with the vast majority of the more native community."
In addition, the rules change and have many, many, many times since I have been here. So, appealing to tradition is a fallacy of logic as well, but, hehehe, see my first sentence.

Fallacy, Disco was a hybrid of RP and PvP, and only, relatively, recently became RP-trendy.
You've come to a new place, and at first we said hello and smiled. You looked at the make believe we were playing, which we recently began to move out of a simple cops and robbers sort of tag, and jumped in, with giant robotic spiders and declarations that you're imaginary groups, fresh to our world, our game, could beat everything and do whatever you liked....but we were already playing a game, and it didn't involve the robotic spiders, and we're just a mite upset that you're messing up the game we were enjoying. We're the neighborhood kids, and you're acting a lot like bullies. We don't especially like that, and you would do well to pay a bit of ear to us as we explain how we're playing our game. We're playing it a certain way, and don't want to change, and especially not because you're too stuck up to join in.
Just because you're here, doesn't mean you're playing the same game, and we like ours as it is.
Breaking my word about leaving the thread, but thought I should leave on a positive note:
' Wrote:Now, as for showing you that capital ships aren't all that. Well, I prefer just letting the server do it for me instead of doing it myself. Yes, true, tutting my own horn, I have quite a bit of skill in a Bomber, as does Sovereign, along with a few others. We can easily show you, but, I'm not in to that, I'll let RP takes it course to the usual PvPs and you'll see it for yourself when your own death message comes up on your screen.

I am getting tired of the ranting, you people should remember a game is nothing without players. FL is an old game and does not get many new players these days, those that do make it here should be encouraged, not ranted at and driven away. Respect and tolerance goes a long way to building a strong community.
I'm a little worried that that's the message you've gotten from my posts, because you're quite right- a game really is nothing without players. The thing is though, we have a wealth of community here- while I have no problems with capships or with destroying them, unless you fly one yourself, they tend to stifle RP if you get charged, guns blazing and nary a word. I love fighter combat, and would love to see fighters used like they were in single-player: as escorts to capital ships. When I go up against capships most of the time, as soon as they realize I'm in a VHF and not a bomber/capship (thus having no chance of victory all by my lonesome, as it should be), they usually hold of on beating me up and forcing me out of system. I've had good RP with Harvesters and Mon'Star this way, as well as a few others.
However, a massive pile of capships is not only a little scary to behold without a bomber squadron at your back, but due to quirky human nature has this tendency to promote rushing into PvP. I would much prefer to talk for half an hour than actually fight, and like you said, I couldn't very well do that if there were no other people. Since this is a role-play server, that adds another reason not to have piles of capital ships- it just doesn't feel right.
My intention with the last few posts, no matter how incensed they may have been or what I actually said, was to push the A-51 back on track, and promote better interaction with the community. Preferably in a flame-free manner, but really through any means necessary. I've seen good, human stuff from you guys, and really don't want you to leave, but this server really does belong to everyone. When it comes to engagements where your battlecruiser fleet stifles others fun, that kind of puts a damper on that. In the end, its up to you as long as it stays within server rules, but still...
I know I'm probably getting a little fuzzy with the writing of this, but I hope you catch the drift. Thanks for listening/reading.
