I have been chatting with several players in regard to the subject of today's news announcement. During that long, long chat, I grouped everything from my bio and counted the words. Before I begin, please allow me to show these dates:
March 12th 2016 - first post in Biography.
April 9th 2016 - last post in Biography & CC.
These dates given, it is easy to conclude that this character has not been on forums even for this one month. Why I am pointing out dates? This connects with something I have written in the very first paragraph. Counting up the words:
I was grouping everything from my bio - minus obvious attached in-game logs. I came up with over 4000 in my biography alone.
I counted up two posts as well, containing only two of the in-game logs in that bio, which are a bit shorter than my average encounters. It quickly went over 6500 words.
Then again, I started counting all the messages I've made myself in Communication Center. I stopped when once I reached over 12 000 words written in total, not even reaching fourth page of my own post listing via profile.
If I count up involvement of other people in CC as well - assuming I made 5000 words in three listing pages, ending on page seven, and people usually wrote a bit more than I did, let's add 6000 words and double summary of both - it means I wrote a lot.
The approximate total number is way over 30 thousand words involved into Cody's roleplay - involving all the inRP encounters with members onto forums.
Alone.
It is impossible how to even approximate character's involvement. Asking me to retcon the character or "duh, simply change the stoopid pic" is actually an impossible request. I already stated that on proper thread, but I will repeat it again:
Quote:This is not how it works. This is not how any of these work.
The most fatal issue is that a lot of roleplay would be going to be retconned. And I mean it. Ask SirDoge and Wellingtons how much roleplay they had put into doing things out with me - it was not only initiative of mine, mind you. Not to mention several other players (these know about whom I talking about) which enjoyed such a roleplay of human-animal hybrid. I heeded the criticism on how such a character should work.
Problem with Cody is not 'duh, you can just change the avatar'. Human Cody will not be the very same Cody created previously. It means a lot of changes, a lot of stance and behaviourism changes - it is easier to create whole character a new than to do a lot of retconning to already existing character.
For me, both possibilities is throwing my efforts into dustbin.
I will do a summary (or TL; DR), made in points.
- Cody's roleplay started less than month ago.
- Biography alone is 4000 words, over 6500 with two logs in there.
- Summed up with all CC (concluded with other players) it is approx over 30 000 words.
- In-game roleplaying would possibly double or even triple that number.
And now, the punchline:
- I have been roleplaying Cody for less than month.
- Bret has been roleplaying all his characters over six years.
This cannot be retconned. It would require starting roleplay anew, with completely new character. This thread isn't actually about furries or discussing the news announcement.
[size=large]This is about the fact how much involvement and passion had been wasted.
For the benefit of everyone involved, I really don't think it's a good idea to discuss today's annoucement. It's just going to encourage people to lynch those who played furries.
The thing is also that the admins can decree whatever they damn well please because they're the ones making the rules. It's their job. Case and point: there will always be stuff that people don't find alright, but you either live with it or go away. This is not supposed to be passive aggressive or anything; it's just the way things are.
Okay fun fact, one of my current characters (not gonna mention which) is a product of my early days on Disco. 5 years I've had this character, and when I first made them, I was an idiot and decided "heeeey let's make them have ears and a tail". And you know what? I later realized how stupid that was. So you know what I did? I retconned it. Is the character still around and productive? Yes. Was them having ears and a tail crucial to their identity? At first yea then I realized it's not as important as one might think. Does this have a point? Yes.
What your character looks like isn't as important as you think it is. You can still have edgy runaway experiment without them being half wolf. Just change a few parts of their background like I did with mine and all will be good. If the whole point of the character and their personality is based on them having a tail, I think there's a bigger issue to deal with.
inb4 "if it isn't that big a deal why are furries not allowed" Because the admins ruled they have no place and make no sense within the universe we all have built and we have to respect the decision of not only the admins but also the majority of the players.

Just find replacements for it. Examples: Disabilities, mutation, work-place accidents, etc.
HAVE YOU SUFFERED AN ACCIDENT AT WORK THAT WASN'T YOUR FAULT

I still don't care about either sides opinion. What's done is done. Whatever you decide to do is your choice, though stomping off in to the sunset rather than making minor alterations seems like a waste of potential interaction and both of your time here as far as I'm concerned.
Either way, these types of responses aren't helping anyone. This is not flood, lets try and be civil over dumping gas on the fire.
I just find it so much unfair with people that has been playing those characters for several years. It's so bad to retcon so much quality roleplay. Yes, quality roleplay. 99% of RPs here are banta poodoo, and some furries have lots of history behind those characters spannig several years and factions. There are many trolls to be banned for ever, instead time is getting wasted to ruin good players RPs. It's just sad.
