It's a long story but to sum up, if you want the dynamic economy and sorting function for the columns, the best choice imo is to use my first workaround with the version 2.01 of FLCompanion : http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread...pid1669519 I have made a very simple batch to automate the whole process. If you are interested by that, you can pm me.

I've read that thread, but I want to run Companion on my laptop, supplementing my gaming desktop, so I don't have to keep alt-tabbing. If I were to follow those instructions, involving the batch file on my laptop, could I just keep Companion always open? I guess what I'm asking is: If I close Freelancer on my laptop, will the dynamic economy values still be in Companion? If so, would putting my laptop into Sleep mode clear the values?
I don't use the laptop for hardly anything, just a media server. It can barely run Freelancer even. If I could keep Companion minimized but open, I would love to do that. Thanks again.

Once prices have been imported from the game with the dynamic function, the game can be closed and the updated prices will stay there unless you close FLCompanion of course. Just don't forget to update prices from time to time.

OK, thanks. I'll do that then. It would be much simpler for players if the economy that's set by the server were to be downloaded to the client, and have many small patches, don't you think? That way, there wouldn't really be a "dynamic economy" per se. A new patch could come out once per week or something, and the only things it would change are the prices...

I could not have said it better.

I wish for this. But I have not got the money to pay the Greens and Oranges the money it would take to make it happen weekly. That's a lot of work, but it would be cool.

A lot of work is an understatement..
Currently, there is no efficient way to tell how many commodities have been sold at each base. I believe one of the more important things about a dynamic economy is not randomizing it, but adjusting numbers based on if people have been selling things at a base. (Prices go up if there is a lack of material, prices go down if there is too much)
While I suppose with a lot of work, a generator could be written if we had those numbers, we can't really get that sort of information.
Xoria would also have a heart attack. He likes knowing everything about the Economy. Adjustments that happen that often would make him a sad man.
If this was feasible, it'd have been considered. Though the majority of us don't have the time to give this the consistent attention it'd need.
