Thing is, roleplay =/= story writing. People have different takes on how to approach it. Some spend more time ingame, on skype while others spend more time writing on the forums. I was never really a fan of writing a novel on the forums or in some doc.
All in all, though, the best 'award' to me as a roleplayer is others considering to add my character onto their own RP. Be it whatever, really. It's the best kind of feeling to me and by far the most satisfying. Sure you can go ahead and rate people, but in the end it also comes down to whether or not said roleplay fits your taste. Too many variables for a contest, imo.

Rorry.
Phate.
Hale.
Jameson.
These names strike as memorable? Bingo.
I remember them all. I could be wrong but I believe the creator of Phate is still lurking around.
Admiral Hale might been one of the longest running characters in Disco but I didn't come into Liberty too often. The player on the other hand Ive shared administration and retiree chats with him for quite awhile. Very helpful even after he stepped down.
Jameson was my infamy neighbour so by default we've chatted many times. I liked him a lot. Our factions were hostile to each other yet throughout the long time we were both leaders we both got along fine. It's too bad that he might ve been too popular amongst the OC for their own good. Bloomed into something of a personality cult so that when he left Disco the blow to the OC was massive. Hurt us GMG too. I for one appreciate having an enemy who can muster up a bunch of players for battle.
I have to include Emporer Jien Koen to the list because holy gak I hated him. He was the neighbour from hell. Made me laugh, made me scream, even made me cry in frustration. All the way back to my earliest days of putting GMG together there was nothing like waking up to find the Emporer and his whole fleet on the front lawn declaring our space as belong to KusarI. I was no princess either and it was a very long running feud. The man behind Jien Kogen, on the other hand, I got along with quite well and we happily ground through the violation reports swinging the hammer while smoking weed. Good times.
Or people could just play out their characters leaving out those personal attributes (as much as that's possible) and actually "roleplay" in a sense of "playing a role" and not doing a carbon-copy of themselves with some colour added to it.
Then again, I guess those times are over. Not just here but looking more generally at other proper MMORPS that open up the option to engage in a rp-environment.
I have to agree with Sindroms though on the overall attidude when it comes to open communications which seems to just invite the crowd of trolls to get over with their desires to post some meaningless stuff that is funny to either just them or them and those within their little world.
Carboncopy is going to happen. Particuluarly when beginning RP for first time regardless of game. I'm guilty of it too. My first char was a Bounty Hunter named after me (Felix) and I helped Athenian create S/D which was later renamed to generic BHG. My female character that led GMG unexpectedly became my most important character from what started as a little money making faction of only 5 but grew into a fleet at its height. Somewhere in there is forgotten Gaian and Das Wilde chars that I can't recall the names of..
I digress. My point is don't get discouraged when a character isn't blooming. Keep tryin new things out and something will spring out sooner or later. Once you got a good char going it's rewarding watching him/her grow. I support the idea or any idea to encourage RP
Encouraging RP has to once go a long way up again in this community, for many reasons I'll not post publically on the forums.
If you happen to show up on Skype, you might get some insight into it.

If people want to host something like this, by all means. I personally might not have the time to arrange something like this, but I sure as hell will support it in any way that I can.
It doesn't need to be Sindroms, anyone can come up with a neat competition or something and we'll give it some exposure and help on our end.
