Quote: but say you happen to get disrupted by corsairs, attacked by them, then a nomad battlegroup, battleships and all starts on at you, you're going down pretty soon, the situation is rare, you arent attacked often, but when you are, the patrols and cost will soon mount up, especially with player looting now enabled
Simple solution, just hit F1, there NPC's im pretty sure they won't mind.
Look, this isn't meant for Traders Vrs NPC, this is PVP, not NPC's pirating others, If you want to attack other players, then you have to be fair, and Running around attacking people in a GB with Cruiser shields is not going to be tolerated long by me.
NOW, If your only here to trade, Fight NPC's Explore Sirrus, or something else thats fine, do what you will to your ships as long as your not Activly attacking other players, If you are then you stick with the shiled the Capital ship came with, Don't change it.

thank you for finally clearing up the rule on the equiptment issue for us.
we were not aware until you launched this forum that you COULD excede a ships equiptment.
"But Sarge, it fits if you mount it sideways and run the power leads thru the kitchen and tape this thingofabob over in the freezer."
we will change our "Mods" out on our ships and return to origanal equiptment.
I must add a few words in defence of this sort of upgrading, you can create some of the "special" ship classes by doing this. Packets....heavly armed and armored fleet style transports, Q-Ships....just the thing to put a frown on the face of pirate raiders, and, i guess you would call them East Indiamen, trade vessels that were in many ways superior to most of the war-ships of their era.
on another note......is there a list of the "Gentlemen Rules" posted on the site? if not , maybe we should start one. I, for one, enjoy the PvP combat a great deal as it seems to bring out the very best in many players. To be thought "cheating" by carrying uber gear would only make the victory hollow.
i have heard that there are restrictions on bats and bots for certain ship classes but as of yet I have not gotten a clear answer as to just what they are.
Bat and bot restrictions I will not bother following excepting a PvP match were I was asked not to use them... Otherwise, if I randomly get attacked, I will use them. If I randomly attack another, I expect them to use 'em.
hmm I always thought there is more honor in not using them in PvP, but if I see the opponent using them in a same class combat (ie. fighter vs fighter or capship vs capship)... I'll use them too
If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. Asimov The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. All ships in the burrial ground are placed facing that hole to honor the Alien Spirits. - An Outcast rumor
I still don't like this "one rule for some, different rule for others" mentality, as I've mentioned in other posts. I believe the mis-use of shields should be punishable as you have said, but to everyone. We're all on the same server after all, right?
As for finius's point about rare occasions when a regular trader may be jumped by every NPC in the game, well that's life and that's how it should be. No-one should be assured complete safety if they're using outer world trade routes, whether they PvP or not.
And seriously Angel, condoning use of F1 in combat situations, NPC or otherwise? The most anyone is going to lose is about 10-15 minutes of further trading to make up for whatever is lost. So what. Sometimes bad things happen. I really really want character change limited to docked characters to come into effect in a later release, to stamp out this F1 nonsense.
I suggest this shield rule be better implemented to the benefit of the server and mod as a whole, rather than whatever trading character you may be using right now.
Ok I must ask why you need a GB shield on a train as the Adv. Barrier has 88k and a regen of 1200 (I think) anyway and then you will be sure you are not going over the ship spec.
I've been mildly miffed by one-shot weapons since their implementation, oh so long ago. I remember the days when fights were a matter of who could aim better, rather than who could aim a single shot. - Virus
I'm going to have to agree with Badger here. If we're going to say what can and cannot be used on ships, it has to apply for everyone. Special cases and exemptions would just make it more confusing and harder to enforce.
This is the real true story of rock and roll; it was not about anything more then, how to live your life, as a gangster, in sartorial splendor, and turning the world into a place where normality would never return again...- Malcolm McLaren
1. Either I enforce that Stock Shield polocy, where as with Transports, large Transports, Liners Prison liners, Trains, Large Trains, Gunboats, Cruisers/Destroyers, and Battleships stick with the Shield they come with no if, ands or buts about it.
2. Or, Only Active PVP players are to follow the same guidelines.
Now, Let me clear up a Few things, the odds of Dieing to NPC's on this server, even in Omicron Delta, in a Transport or Better, is about 1 in 10 thousand, Anything smaller i can understand, but theres no reason someone should die out there, You have Bots and Bats right, well youse them, second, Minimum Shield strength of these capital ships is like 32K, thats plenty of buff to get out of any situation. And I don't know If any of you know this, but you have to be hit in the Nose of your Train Transport whatever, to get CDed, so If you see a group of Corsairs comin at you from the from, Turn slighty to a side, it will hit the Cargo container, problem solved.
Quote:And seriously Angel, condoning use of F1 in combat situations, NPC or otherwise?
Ok, Its done almost 15 times a day, Trust me I've seen the logs its not like its a new thing here, and there N P C's, there not human, if they where living and breathing I'd Understand, but there BOTS, there brainless things There not going to have there fealings hurt if a Rhino Filled with VIPS, F1ed against a Nomad Battship group, hell Id understand.
Now If that Same Rhino F1ed to get away From A phantom, Or a Player Pirate then there would be issues.
If I do start enforceing option one, then there better not be any complaining, I want everyone understand this, Im not going to ready 50 Messages that so in so is using blah blah blah.
And to the people who want to create a shield for the Capital ships individually, It probably won't work, If you do it by levels, then you could slapping them On dromedarys, and the Such, Theres very little room for play, when dealing with Ship shields.
