They forget that it takes quite alot of time to do this job.
Anyway, if the server is going down, we need to get the server files as fast as we can, and get a new server, or we ask alley to rewrite the ownership.
To find a server that fits for us, will take a while, since Freelancer only supports 1 core.
So, the data transfer is the important stuff, do we don't start from 0.
Actually, we can only wait and hope that one of the admins get the files asap.
Spazzy mentioned he's going to back things up I believe.
Yes, being a part of the staff is a difficult job when managing such a complex and diverse community. I volunteered for the position several times and would be willing to do it.
As I mentioned in the thread, I don't know the first thing about the technical side of server management. I'm more of a people person.
I could look for a server in Germany, since that's the place where I life, I would think about Hetzner, or I ask my current Arma 3 community if we can host the server there, since our server manager guy is owning that server.
Just some basic stuff on our server:
64gb RAM
Raid 5 storage
Raid 5 cache
3 VM's
Gateprotect Firewall
Processor, actually need to ask him.
Place Germany, Frankfurt
Internet: Unlimited with 100mb down and upload

I'm pretty much in the same position here. As for my side, I'd be willing to handle moderation stuff and (if needed) ship model making (although I still have things to learn about the latter), as well as giving a hand wheneve I can.
I am not currently in the right time, because I'm in my last year of college, I don't have the necessary time to be able to provide technical help or FLHook stuff. I'd do the FLHook part, given I'd had another fella with me.
My time though could offer me the chance to manage forum stuff, look over things and all.
After I'm done with my college and all, and if the community will still live on, I'll start on FLHook stuff.
PS: I also did badass stations.

Circumventing my probation-status now.
Together with @Legionnaire I'm pretty sure we two can run the new machine within Germany.
Though that'd eventually require @Alley to keep her host up for a month longer, would make the transition less stressful.
Hit me up on Skype later today, Lambda.

//Edit: as per @Alley's following post, I guess switching both boxes or just one doesn't make much of a difference in the end.
We currently have two servers. The web box and the game box.
The web box holds the forums, development repository, faction activity data, patching system and a few other things.
The game box, well, it holds the game server on which FLServer runs.
The game box is the one donations are being funneled to, which is being paid for by @"King Boo". This is actually the server that's been a source of worries for the admin team, because we didn't know if one day we were going to see it vanish because @"King Boo" decided to stop paying for it. I don't actually expect him to do that, but the complete lack of communication leaves you in a constant state of doubt.
The forum box is the one I reference in my post and the one under my ownership at this time. I'm not actually going to be a giant dick and shut off the thing on April 1st, that's more of a deadline for him to sort his shit out like he's expected to do. It just means from this point on the forum box will be left to operate on its own until someone wants to pick it up and maintain it.

Thank you for the clarification alley. You never cease to be awesome, even when finally done with it all.

Thank you for clarifying, Alley. This makes it much easier to find a solution to the problem.
Since it's not a matter of hosting the server but managing it, this isn't necessarily as big of an issue, but it's still problematic if the person currently responsible for both is very uncommunicative with the people putting effort into trying to care for the community.
I'd move to have someone else manage it in this case, because it seems irresponsible to entrust someone - even if they have the know-how - with the job of managing the servers if they have little to no motivation to participate in the community, let alone talk to people.
Naturally, anyone doing so would have to be well trusted by the staff.
