OUTRAGEOUS!!!!
No rocks most of the time.
Small, flat rocks
Nearly invisible.
Even hard to find when zero grafix, no space dust, etc etc
This is UNMINEABLE!
de'Sade must have designed this.
9:47 => 3905
10:12 => 3815
I gave up after 2 runs. Too annoying.
I did 4 timings, with a Rock Badger (2310 hold)
3:06
3:26
3:37
3:59
Yes the rocks can be annoying, especially when you hit all around them and not hit them.
Saying that, it has improved, a lot over the years, because to fill the same RB, it would have taken nearly double the time.
Welcome to Gallic Mining.
'I would like to be half as clever as some people like to believe they are' Life is full of disappointments, it is how we handle them that helps to define us, as a person

Welcome to Gallic Mining.
I must have done something wrong then.
And I cannot see where I made the mistake that made my mining so much slower.
But even your numbers show "slow" mining compared to other fields.
Hm. Ran a test again with St.Denis.
He: 3:02, me: 5:18.
Same loadout, same place.
Too much of a margin imo to explain by "being used to it".
For me, never more than 3 rocks / screen.
For him, sometimes 5-7. Which I definitely never ( ! ) had today.
No idea, Swagpack visual range being lower is (is it?) is my only possible explanation.
Anyway: It is subpar by all standards, it sucks to mine here compared to "normal fields" and needs standardisation badly.
Quote:BMM ID, Raw Hydro Carbon, O3
Clydesdale, 4 lasers
- could be more rocks
- bad contrast in the non-minable rocks
- hard to see rocks => glow/lava effect?
- too close to NPC BMM base: 14 k?! Should be 20-25k
So... I have been mining A LOT.
And you know how many people i met that I did not take with me?
2. Two. (and I bet they were in a channel where I threw my mining announcement)
We need centralisation. Badly.
I'll propose a concept to radically reduce mining systems, combine them, etc... so that interaction becomes a thing again.
Because... it cannot be that mining and meeting no one ever (neither trader, nor unlawful, nor lawful) is the standard in HOURS.
Yeah I agree with these assesments. I've been mining for days and I tried platinum, the hassle almost doesn't seem worth the long trip to a profitable selling location. Mining (platinum) in itself is very slow even when you have all the proper equipement and ID. Then you have to travel to the other side of the galaxy in order to sell your ores. Then go all the way back...
I almost feel like miners are better off mining helium in the field behind erie it seems the most profitable if you look at the entire pictures of mining time & time travel time.
HORRIBLE! Had to turn off space dust, backgrounds, everything to minimum to find rocks, and there were hardly anytime more than 2 on 1 screen. Compared to other fields... that's ridiculous.
3:31 for 3850
3:35 for 4020
5:00 for 4179
4:04 for 4020

I did a lot of tests today, and to me the BMM Clydesdale especially appeared to be incredibly OP.
Here are my results:
Method of mining: Shooting forward in cockpit view
HEGEMON All Heavy mining arrays
IMG
When closer to middle, 20 rocks brought: 150, 150, 158
When closer to edge, 20 rocks brought: 113, 106, 131
Turning to get ore into view for 9 minutes 2720 ore 302,2/minute
BMM
When closer to middle, 20 rocks brought: 269, 405, 294
When closer to edge, 20 rocks brought: 234, 209, 200
Turning for 4:30 minutes 2720 ore 604,4/minute
Miner ID
When closer to middle, 20 rocks brought: 131, 106, 126
When closer to edge, 20 rocks brought: 92, 102, 82
Turning for 12 minutes 2720 ore = 226,7/minute
Freelancer ID: 12 minutes 672 ore = 56/ minute
CLYDESDALE
5 light mining arrays (only four fire forward), turning to get ore
IMG (90% technerf) 4 minutes for 550 137.5/minute
Miner (90% technerf) 4 minutes for 550 137.5/minute
Freelancer (90% technerf) 4 minutes for 550 137.5/minutes
BMM (no technerf) 20 seconds turning 550 1666.6/minute
My conclusions:
-Because the Hegemon turns slower, it will get less ore/rock because not all guns hit at the same time when the ore is at the edge. Faster turning ships are less affected by this because they will have turned to have the ore near the middle of the screen faster
-The miner ID seems reather useless to me, and no-one would really want to use it.
-Instead, people will just make a new char with optimal ID at every mining spot. To me, this doesnt seem like a good development. People who dont play skypelancer will not know who is who if everyone has 30 chars, will not recognize people, and therefor form less bonds with people. Having fewer chars also causes people to identify with them more, develop better RP, and create more immersion.
-BMM Clydesdale is OP
Having bonuses of one faction double or to another in the same place seems really excessive. It'l just cause "hi are you a trader ok let me log the other car and fill you up in 3 minutes" interactions . That's pretty much the experience in Dublin and Munich.
And with the rather brokenly excessive BMM clydesdale (I think the BMM surveillor is also OP, although not as bad) that's not surprising.
In summary:
A new person may buy a miner ID but get almost no benefit from it, especially compared to the optimal ID (in this case BMM). Its also often confusing for new people to get a mining ship and mining laser and get no benefit because they still have the freelancer ID. Making mining bonus dependent on ID (and also giving no bonus for mining laser unless you have a mining ship) is counter-intuitive. Also the miner ID is not sold on most stations and not easy to find for noobs.
I'd therefore recommend just giving the Freelancer ID the mining ID mining bonus and drop the miner ID.
It would also be better it if the difference between faction IDs (and also the difference towards freelance mining) wasnt so big, because everyone will just make several 0-personality mining drones.
I'd also generally make mining slower for ships like the clysesdale (dont make the already slow ones slower), because high speeds like that doesnt leave much time for pirates.
Lastly, I think having snubs mount a mining laser on the useally useless rear turret should give decent mining bonus (for freelancer ID and mining faction IDs at lest). That way they can use one char for several purposes, which creates a better environment for the reasons I mentioned.
Tried mining got squat . still just hauling from Reinlan to libety and back 15 mil a trip. seems that there ae no real juicy runs that can be done. appeas that they are all basically the same. I dont see othe playe much, they seem to all be in conn fer some reason. Have taken to just exploring,
