The grief you wrote about "pirates seeing red, shooting, guessing wrong", need to be solved in game. Because those, here, reading the topic, are already aware of what the FL tag/ID imply. I was just saying that the best way to deal with the annoyance is to role play with the guy or ignore him in game.
You are right role playing a Freelancer and role playing a Mercenary is different. However, you missed my point.
Freelancers have no allies factions, do not form a faction in strict term, so the diplomacy sheet and the classical Allies/Ennemies do not exist for them as a general rule. Therefore, I am not sure that you can use the comparaison with the Order. But nice try :D
The FL ID is biaised and the server rules add one more restriction (see below). If you are role playing a lawful Freelancer you can stick to the FL ID. But, if you are role playing a Freelancer having contact with the unlawful - live on the edge or Border world and you will -, you have to take the Merc ID because sooner or later you will be "ooRP" according to server rules. In both case, you are remaining a Freelancer if you stick to one simple roleplay guideline :"unwilling to join any faction".
Just for info
Quote:6.15 Owners of Bounty Hunter/Mercenary/Freelancer IDs have a right to attack:
- Pirates
- Traders ships carrying smuggled goods and refusing to drop them
- (not for FL ID) Lawful and unlawful players with a bounty on their heads
The debate was closed and even if the rule contradict the FL ID, the server rules prevail (sorry i cannot find the thread link ). So, if a Freelancer want to execute a bounty contract, he has to take the Merc ID. It also means that a Freelancer ID CANNOT act like a BH, so, yes there are not related at all.
PS : Look the list of Merc working with the OPG. Accepting to see their names related to the OPG is more than enough to confirm the fact that they are unlawfuls or at least trusted by them. Kudos to them !
Well I have said like 4 times already that FL have nothing to do with BH. Real Freelancer in fact should shoot noone and be shot by noone. Which can be boring altough that is the way it is. The Order is of course something else, it was just to show that there is no rule about officially unlawfull must attack anyone officially lawfull. The mercs are a lot different as i have said (And unlawfulls are kinda rare when we compare with those working on the "good" side, and I mean its actually good there are unlawfuls as well), altough they are supposed to be "neutral" or maybe better said - free and independent as well.
Its just the feeling you are trying to argue with me on something, but not sure what it is, you have said exactly the same thing I have.
I buy things I don't want to make an impression on people I don't like.
Quote:Zoner NPCs carry Cardamine in Omicron 74, I believe.
Well ok... but I still think its little strange for Zoner to do route Alpha>Nomad systems>Alaska>Liberty with cardamine and slaves back whole day everyday. It "stinks":)I dont thing Zoners are supposed to be mainly smugglers.
