Quote:All it takes is a gentle PM ingame "Please take that Out of role play chat to the private messages. Thank you!"
This is never entirely effective. One usually gets something along the lines of an Eff You before being ignored or yelled at, hence some of the other faction leaders and myself are petitioning for console rights again...

You have to keep a bunch of things in mind as an admin. For instance, say a noob logs into the server, undocks, takes a potshot or two at a pass Lib BS patrol and gets torn to bits. Now he starts cussing his head off, and you have to kick/ban him. Problem with this is, do it outright, and in the long run, any of the other newbloods sitting around will mark you as a power abuser/jackarse/etc.
Admin is a balancing act and frankly, not too many have the ability to do it. Plus, consider this. You have to give up playing Freelancer for portions of time a day.
Well, we could just have the admins process sanction reports so Cay doesn't have to go on her 1-page rampages. They'd get done quicker, plus with a split workload, single people wouldn't have to do too many. You wouldn't need to be in-game for this... actually, I rarely see any admins on. And I bet that if they do come in-game, they're always bombarded with PMs.
' Wrote:NO SERVER POLICE. NOT EVER. :nono:There would be no way to keep them from becoming the A-Hole posse. In addition, it would make tons more work for the admins.
If someone is mature enough to police the player base they should just be made an admin. None of this middle ground stuff. It just leads to more drama.
More admins...yes...oh yes..yes please..many more admins do we need. :yahoo:

Need admins, Not server polices, We are here all server police since we repport bad behavior to admins, etc. We are somehow policing Discovery, But On a less flame-able way.
we are players, reporting errors and such, nothing even like server police. server police, as someone mentioned, have a bit of power, and may end up having that itty bitty power go to their heads.
either way, we need more authority figures, be it in the shape of admins, or server police.
I've been thinking about this since it was mentioned by someone a few days ago, & as much as I hate to admit it, an invisible 'server stasi' could accually help lessen the workload.
I know all the 'slippery slope' arguments & it is no substitute for more admins (the best move) but it could accually help.
They could work in pairs...one to fly the camera ship & watchdog & snap the shots, & the other to write up the accual sactions. (& they can rotate positions every week)
The key would be to have the admins rotate the stasi every month from a short list of the trusted & level-headed around here, & maintain STRICT anonymity. (even from the other stasi)
Personally, every fiber of my being hates the concept of a secret police, but then again...this is not real life, it's a server where people don't follow the golden rule.
I think I remember Caylith said they receive 60 sanction reports a day.
Lessee....... 60 sanction reports per day / 5 admins = 16 each. If each report takes 10 minutes (investigation, looking at screenies, PMing, posting sanction thread or not, updating player record).... that's nearly 3 hours per day for each admin just to do sanctions.
3 hours a day, 365 days a year. And that's assuming all 5 of them are available all the time.
I dunno about y'all, but after work, sleep, making dinner, housework, cuddling the missus, etc... I have 2 maybe 3 hours per day free to myself.
This amount of workload expected of the 5 admins ATM is ridiculous. Back when we had 40 people online it was doable, but now..... logic dictates we need more people in charge.
Making people admins has always been subject to great scrutiny and inertia, for obvious reasons. But something's gotta be done.

I have personally helped and hung out with at least 6 newbs, since being part of The Angels, helping them get
started and advice on RP and factions and what not, and spent at least 3 hours with each of them.
And I haven't spent alot of time on the Angels char since ive been developing my Hyung and Rogue chars.
I can tell you it works, if you approach it the right way.
And yes I have had the noninterested parties as well. Sometimes..days or a week or two later,
I see them on the sanction thread.

We have more and more people everyday, most of them clueless, and we have admins who are showing up less and less. Hoodlum is MIA, Majpk rarely pops his head up unless there's a server issue, Kane rarely comes here anymore as far as I can tell, AC_Merc is resolving personal issues... so that leaves Caylith, Xoria and Korrd, all of whom have busy lives outside of Discovery.
We definitely need more than 3 mostly-constant admins.
after reading the replies to this thread, id say, that the general answer is: we need more active, impartial admins. we need people who can be firm and strict, yet be gentle enough to be able to talk to, and help sort issues with a cool head.
now, id actually like to hear what the admins, and in particular igiss may have to say about this.
