I think part of the problem is that a lot of the time admins spend isn't time spent administrating at all, more like babysitting us. A lot of the time they spend is spent doing things like faction proposals, listening to people complain or ask questions about the server (I know we have the Angels), approving new ship or station models, modding systems, or, my favorite, moving people out of stations they're stuck in (I'm looking at you, Freistadt).
Is this really administrating? It sounds more like babysitting to me, and we need more people to babysit as well as those to administrate. Thusly, I propose this again (since it seems to have been ignored) as well as more admins:
' Wrote:What about server police that are specifically in charge of things like Faction Proposals, Moving stuck people, listening to complaints, all the non-sanction and non-server-maintenance things?
EDIT: Those don't sound like server police to me, either, more like server moderators.
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
I would like more people around for the simple reason of answering grey-area rules clarifications.
the admins can't read every topic, nor should they have to. but questions about the rules, like I've posted here shouldn't be ignored if at all possible.
Angels with MOAR POWER?! No. As much as I like to joke about having my Angel equipped with Admin cannons, it wouldn't be a fair way of dealing with things.
<strike>Metroid- VIPER MKII - Licensed for nomads in both liberty and bretonia houses
Cargo Metroid- CSV - Unlicensed (I'm not gonna license my Cargo person)</strike>
Gonna start anew...
what we may need is guides. - a team to filter the sanction reports before they are passed to the admins. and a team that evaluates the faction submissions. and finally a team that watches over the server-forum and writes up a report of all hot topics weekly to keep the connection between the base players and the admin team intakt.
guides should not have administrative powers in terms of what they can or cannot do, - but their vioce should reflect a more official statement.
a lot of bickering and unhappyness resulting from lengthy forum discussions may be avoided if admins ( or in that case guides ) had stepped in with at least a semi official statement to settle it. - instead ppl burn out arguing with each other and growing more and more unhappy with how things work - mostly out of uncertainty cause no one knows who is in their rights or wrongs.
again, the server is quite healthy - its the forums that cause problems from times to times. - the tone on the server is quite civil most of the time even, with draconic sanctions on foul language etc. - but the forum contains much harsher comments from time to time, - more personal insults and many many more attacks on people - and that mostly cause no one can tell whats really "right". - the discussions usually circle around interpretations and once they points of view are cleared up ppl start posing with their experience and ingame powers. - i had often wished for a clear word from an official to clear things up before they got ugly. ( even if its about RP things )
We need more admin's, yes! But it is a hard job. I have been a moderator, and an Admin on another game server. It is hard to be fair, and you become hated by some, and other's kiss your azz.
I left because some admin's became corrupt, and showed favortism to player's they liked.
I prefer to just help noob's in game as a player.
Being an admin is super hard work, and take's a ton of time. No one should take it lightly. I sure as hell will never volunteer again, hehe
but there is no need to pity admins. they take their job voluntarily - out of their free will. so yea - those that like to do it, may be considered - those that don t like to do it - won t need to. its like moving into a house near an airport. - you know there s gonne be noise, so you should not complain about it afterwards.
anyway - thats why i d suggest to split the admins jobs into very narrowly defined parts. a few global admins are fine. - but mostly we need ppl that are doing just specific things. - so the admins evaluating the factions shouldn t do anything about sanctions. - thats not the his job then. split it down into small parts and maintain the links between the teams. - that might be the global admins job. - so you have a supervisor and teams that operate indepently.
edit: that might have sounded harsh, - i don t wanne discredit the admins work. - but if the job becomes too hard, there is no problem of giving the admin title away again and get someone else into the team. - its not a dedication, no job for life. its just - when i hear things like "they cannot get through their workload and all" - i think, they are not payed anyway. - whats preventing them from getting more ppl into the team then. if igiss payed the admins - and cash was limited, i d say - yea, we have a problem. - but since its voluntarily.... i don t really see a problem with overwork.
People with no banhammer power and the like, but with a voice that counts.
Basically they would be secretaries, it seems. Filtering the truckload of sanction reports and creating legible summaries of confusing questions/complaints/etc.
After each job is torn down to the bare minimum, while still accurately expressing the individuals concern, it can be submitted to one of the Admins.
A few more global Admins would be nice, but i think it would be best to simply have a recruitment/nomination/volunteer thread and allow people to then vote on who they agree should be a..."admin helper".
The current Admins would have the final say of who would be given these positions of course, but they don't know everyone, so i'm sure they would appreciate some help in pointing out the Disco community's most level-headed, honest, and fair individuals.
