Some people actually don't play this game for fun and take it way too seriously...
While you do have a point about the losers who OOC like "lol" and "hey neone got sum money" I think that players who are sticklers about the rules ruin the game. The rules are supposed to make the game more fun and are guidelines. If following some rule would make the game less fun for all parties involved then it's a bad rule. Note that I'm not putting down any particular rules here, but if you had 4 people on the entire server and they were in New York, a little "lol" every now and then would be fine. But that's not the case. There are usually at least 10 if not 20 players there (heh, half of them whoring liberty cruisers or worse) which means "lol" would of course ruin at least one person's roleplay experience.
Some people have heads that are too big. I feel some people, despite their noble efforts to roleplay, actually fail miserably and instead treat this game like a means to prove who is better. That's not what it is. No one is better at life for shooting down someone else in Freelancer. It's a goddamn game, not a contest.
I haven't joined factions really at all for this reason. Mob mentality. For every GDI who's acting like an idiot, or whoring a capship, I can name five in factions. And it's a really sordid fact because you'd think that an organized faction with even more rules would be better players, but the truth is that the rules kill it. The rules turn the factions into political entities. I don't think people realize that server politics are controlled solely by Igiss, who has the right to prune a faction whenever he wishes if any one faction gains too much power in the current situation. No one faction can dominate the server, ever. And some people play the factions (not roleplay, but actually play) to try and achieve that goal.
In real life I fire people, fine others and put the right ones into authority.
Unfortunately this is just a game so I am powerless to help you...
I would like to shareb these thoughts with the admins/forum readers though:
Why do we not have a strong pro rules presence ingame?
Having Admins without other forms of authority is very frustrating for those who celebrate the RP nature of this server.
Should faction leaders (official) not have certain authority? They have certainly shown that they care for the spirit of this server! (the majority of them anyway).
Does it matter that so many 'old trees' are leaving? ...not becuase they tire of the game but because they tire of the nonsense caused by those who blatantly show contempt for the spirit of this community.
It is not enough to merely see mostly Caylith single handedly punishing a few transgressors, to keep this community healthy we will need much more than the lone figure of an Admin or two with smoking guns... we need power on the hands of the right people!
Who are the right people? Those who care. You can spot them from a mile off.
Anyhoo... just some thoughts, either way I love this community and view it as a retreat from my hectic life, I would hate to see it go down in...er...flames... (scuse the pun)
I think the problem with the server is similar to America's current economic situation. The debate of whether to raise or lower taxes to benefit the economy. Well I'm for the lower taxes argument, personally. Remove some rules, and strictly enforce the ones we keep with more admins. That's how we can "save the server."

Puck, ive said this before, and ill say it again, Disco is going through a phase where, if things are NOT sorted out faster than they are currently going, **** is guna hit the fan, big time. i may not have left discovery, but i have left nearly every faction i was in, bar the HF, LPI, and keepers. all my characters are indy's and quite frankly, i enjoy flying those -much- better than being in a faction. why? because as an indy, i do not have to deal with faction bull****, and i can play the game at my own pace, enjoying it at my own leisure.
it sure is sad to see someone such as yourself leave, but well, i cant say that it was a long time coming. disco might end up losing many more people if we dont pull it together soon enough.
at least you aint leaving completely (ie: got skype and ure Angel char), which is still a bit of a good thing.
Yes, it's a political quagmire, I'm sick of it, but I have a job to do, so I weather the storm. Those of you who don't want part in it: now's the time to back away slowly.

Although I never got to roleplay with you, Puck, I'm rather sad to see you doing this. All I can say is take everyone else's advice, and that I'll look forward to seeing your voice here on the forums as in the past.
Hope you'll feel better in the future, best of luck (especially with the band).
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.

long live the cabbage!
Wow I agree but........
Call me a pessimist but many can TRUELY care for VERY different reasons. Thus politics.
Still hang around till its no fun for ya thats the way i think it should be this is no job.
If you dont like flying then you dont need to be here. I think Puck must if he's keeping his Angel. It'd be crazy to keep it as a cross to bare. Its a game. I just dont think I ever got a chance to RP with the fella.
Get a indie and do a little simple trader RP that would help the server too. You could use your proceeds to give to your Angel and help noobs.
