They're called that way because they are the remains of the federal government, and most of their backing and resources were extracted from federal agencies. They're not a continuation of the government of the republic. Ironically, that's the Imperial government, which is mostly made up of members of the old government, except for the king. They are trying to restore the republic, they are not the republic. Calling them the Republic lowers accuracy and becomes less of a 'Freelancer-style' nonclamenture.

I am not saying they should be call the Republic, I am saying they should be called republicans, as per:

federalists would make sense if they fought people who are either in the support of unitary republic or confederacy (as for example with US civil war). in conflict with monarchists there's no need for such detalization of what sort of republicans they are.
