Yes they should, but not by NPCs. They should be blasted by lawful players.
No, they should be blasted by NPCs. Whenever I get robbed, I wish some NPC battleship would turn up.

And here perfect example why NPC is actually a solution for people like Bisnki

You forgot the most popular choice here on Discovery,
Why can't I vote for 'Remove anything that can shoot me, all players must do what I say, and are under obligation to self destruct if I shoot at them once'
That's what some really want isn't it?
People like Bisnki and Busy Miner want exactly that. NPC protection where it should be not.
To 'remove' unlawful players from them, as they have no right to play by their thinking.

You forget that said Capship NEVER turns up, so it is only a dream
And BTW, I pirate myself a bit, so I would never remove the right for others to do the same. Stop pretending to know my mind.

Oops. We might have to tone down the raw credit output of patrol NPCs until I can get this sorted out properly.
FYI that was like 2 hours in an area without players
150k per ship + cruisers/gbs
Now you actually have something to do in places that players never go to. At still crap money - before with 50+ players everything was dead, now you can go to unpopular systems in peak time and still have something to do.
If anything buff patrols that disturb tradelanes
- This was an in my eyes unreasonable change from Vanilla where the npc did damage and dropped good money when they disturbed tradelanes - now it seems like totally pointless nuisance

Small made calculations then how much load limit should be for which player online
Considering the graphic of player activity that you can see in screenshot,
if we want to have roughly 50/50 time without and with NPC how it was before to keep status quo
load limit should be 20-21
P.S. your tracker to this service became invalid yesterday after server transfer.
Grumblesaur, if you will not show respect and continue to throw out unfounded accusations, then this discussion is at an end.
I am not here to fight, exchange insults or attempt to forcefully undermine the logic of people who disagree with me. Life is too short for that. I'd rather have a cup of tea.

So you just want to be able to accumulate credits without any risk? Why even bother with a roleplay server? Why even play a multiplayer game then?

No man you just want no additional opposition to worry about when going about other things like piracy or want to be able to stop and rp anywhere. I get that, but sometimes you'll have to work a little harder than just sitting there. NPC's make the environment alive, and yes you should be able to count on that, especially since the spawns are only happening often when player count is low. It compensates.
Many would simply say, come back to pirate those miners in a group if there are spawns there making it too hard, which has never been a case for me, and I am usually the pirate. Every time I pirate, especially along a trade lane, I am holding ships in place while npc's are building up and shooting at me the whole time. You have to engine kill and float around a bit so nothing can easily target you. Don't just sit there as an easy target, players may take advantage of that too. So sure if players are around, you luck out, If not, sometimes npc's spawn. There are places in the game that are more vulnerable to launch attacks at. Camping bases is supposed to be ridiculous unless you have your sh*t together.
I used to know where every cruiser/bs spawn in Bretonia was, especially Leeds. I wouldn't even bother with missions sometimes, I'd just fly around Leeds waiting for a battlecruiser to spawn and take it on for fun. The bounty system we have now would have been awesome back then. But I knew I most certainly couldn't just sit out in front of Leeds waiting to RP without paying attention or the spawns would get me. If you sat close to the polar regions, usually only fighters would spawn. There are always possibilities for dealing in game.
