Do you know how easy it is to make money in Discovery? It's stupid easy. I did it the other day just to test it out. I had a Pirate Transport within two hours and was already making 60-70 million per run of ores within three hours of starting. Do that in an afternoon and you'd have enough for a cap ship and weapons by the time you stopped for supper.
Oh, and I've played since 2003 as well and the changes made with FLHook are not only revolutionary, they're much needed in an environment such as this. I hate to say it, but maybe Discovery isn't the right place for you if something like this turns you off. The commands aren't going anywhere and you either need to adapt or move on. Normally I'm all for keeping people around but...if this is that much of a turn off for you then the only other option is...well...
...oh, and one more thing: I play WoW as well, and comparing this to an end game geared character in WoW is like comparing apples to oranges. It's not even in the same league. With WoW you can do high DPS numbers with a high geared character and some research on YouTube. Here, if you get a capship with uber guns, you can still get blown to smithereens by someone in a tiny little bomber because you don't have the skills to fly the ship.

Actually, the reason a cap ship can get taken down easily by a bomber is because that is what bombers were designed for. Its got little to do with pilot skill. What you are comparing is like comparing DPS mage to a tank in WoW. They are both powerful in their own way, But it is highly unlikely that the tank has any chance against a good DPS mage because he isn't designed to fight it. A bomber is designed to take out a cap ship, and even the best cap pilot will fall to a relatively unskilled bomber if taken one-on-one in a fair fight.
I'm not worried about actual combat balance. Just the fairness with how easy it is for a new player to acquire these type of "top end" ships. Not that they are BETTER ships, but they are MORE EXPENSIVE because the game was designed for it to be difficult to obtain these capital ships. Being able to start a brand new character and have "end game' gear is META and as far as I'm concerned, its cheating! Plain and simple... Buying a maxed out character, regardless of what game its in, is cheating. Period

Whats stopping an established player from selling super expensive gear to their buddies that are new to the game. Doesn't this take away from the capabilities of new players that DONT have access to friends online that can sell them top tier gear for pennies? I'm aware of the balance between ship classes, but where is the balance if a completely new player can start off fresh with a 500 million credit cap ship that they bought of their friend/coworker that talked them into playing the game yesterday for 100 in game credits?!?!
And don't just say, "well life isn't usually fair or balanced" because this ISN'T LIFE! Its a GAME and it is the job of the admins and devs to make sure that it is fair, balanced, and FUN for all the players... NOT just the ones that have friends or that have been on the server for years!
How would a situation like this not be considered META gaming? A high level, wealthy, established player can just hand a new player a completely outfitted ship, of any class, without the new player really needing to do anything or pay very much at all. I'm not talking about combat skills or traderoute knowledge, but simply giving someone a ship, in essence an entire character, that has the capabilities fo a ship that would normally take a player a certain level of effort or gameplay to be able to obtain seems like META gaming to me...?

And thank you. I had been looking around the user profile interface.. I didn't see it in the general rules... Guess I wasn't expecting to see guidelines for sig dimensions in the general rules list
You don't understand the concept of the game:
It is a role playing environment, not a grinding game.
And you can do something IRP (in roleplay) and OORP (out of roleplay).
IRP you have a character and you are expected to act like this character.
OORP you are the player.
The playerlist and the givecash commands are usually OORP.

Firstly... It is rude of you to presume that "I don't understand the concept of the game" as you put it. I'm very familiar with {IRP} and {OOC} interactions. Not only that, but the playerlist and givecash commands can easily be worked into RP in a variety of ways. The Bounty Hunter comm network or a shipping companies media and communications network could easily explain a "Playerlist" and the givecash command is just a way to pay someone, make/take a bribe, or "inherit" money from one character to another.
RP is the basis of the game. We are NOT just a bunch of tin cans flying around in space on our own whims. There is order to this chaos, and if we all agree that space is a place MOSTLY for roll-play, it can be a fun adventure for everyone! I got my GMG miner attacked by pirates the other day, and because they played it out over RP, I had a blast! It didn't really matter that I had just lost my hold full of H3, it's just a game after all, BUT it was incredibly FUN RPing the interaction!
The in game abilities given to the players are totally necessary and can be very helpful, as long as they are used in a way that is consistent with good RP. In my experience it is rare to put these types of character editing and transfer skills in the hands of the players, but for this application it appears to be needed and working well.
So, in short, as long as players don't abuse these abilities or commands, then they just take some of the burden off administrates to handle these things. I realize that the people that make and run the game probably have other, more important things to do most of the time and moving some of these responsibilities for character management to the hands of the players is one of the things that allows us to even be able to play a game that is literally 20 years old! Its definitely not a priority in terms of a monetary gains perspective... So it really is a labor of passion just to keep a server and support for the game going!
I'm old school, and I often let MY passions run hotter than needed. Its why I'm know as the Dragon Bitch with people IRL. I didn't mean to offend anyone with my rants and I'm certainly VERY interested in playing along with and becoming part of the rich community here in Discovery
