Are you actually playing in MP? Multiplayer you start with kestrel freighter which is great for making starter cash. I feel you played singleplayer which is sandbox with several 'cheat' commands - it only serves to test the ships you want to fly.
Flying SP you also lack many features of Discovery since they are ran server-side.
Yes Discovery is multiplayer-oriented mod.

Agree with most of what you say. The single player campaign has been deactivated long ago because too much has changed stat-wise, you wouldn't be able to fight rheinland gunboats or battleships in a bretonian or kusari fighter anymore like in vanilla.

You are criticising the same things I did. The server is just too centered around PvP, less around RP as was the actual intention. Every sense of acomplishment like exploring, doing missions or building something has been taken away or severely nerfed or over-complicated. Too few non-combat events and too few opportunities for the players to actually shape the environment remain, so new players are seldom attracted and old players, sitting on mountains of credits, don't want to make it easier for newbies.

No matter what restart I do, I get a Starflyer.

All the restarts are for ease of setting up ships. If you're a new player you're not expected to know the command and wouldn't be recommended to use it.

The idea is you make money with the starter ship and transform it or send the money away.

NPCs need to be tuned way the heck down, I got attacked by Xeno Npcs in my Liberty 5k and they took my shields down instantly and my hull in several seconds, i had no time to do anything or get away. This is a damn 5k with heavy shields!
