We are looking at maybe making it work on Windows 7. FWIW though, it is dangerous and irresponsible to be running Windows 7 on an internet-connected machine in the year 2024.

What Alex said rings true. It would be best if you guys upgraded, for your security. The Linux suggestion might be a bit awkward, but it's necessary.
An application that hosts alot of differnt players from many different places cannot risk on running in Win7, and I should dare to say also 8/8.1
Freelancer being abandonedware does not mean otherwise.
Despite all the complications regarding Windows 7 and Discovery, wouldn't it be worthwhile to somehow warn players that this mod will soon cease to support Windows 7, so that players could at least prepare?
Take me for example. I honestly didn't know about the problems with Windows 7, but I only encountered it after this patch. Moreover, it turned out that the very fact of using this operating system in Discovery is now in question.
I sincerely hope that the staff will find a solution for compatibility between Discovery and older operating systems.
I would like to continue playing, but a problem that suddenly arose after this patch puts a spoke in my wheels.
